How do I explain multiple Santas?!

DS has his first ever Santa at school experience tomorrow at ye olde school fayre. But I rather fancied taking him to see Santa on a boat (a really lovely local thing). So...2 Santas. Different length beards. Odd sized bellies. It's a Santa recipe for disaster. Are 4 year olds especially observant when it comes to Santa?!

Santa is an extremely busy man is I've of year, he has special helpers who go to these places if he can't make it. But you can never tell if it was the real Santa or just one of is helpers.

I've always told my Dc that at this time of year Father Christmas is very busy, so sometimes sends his helpers to be stand-ins for him. We can never be totally sure which is the real one! I love that over the last few years, both my children have a good long look at any Father Christmas they meet, and they both have different ideas and reasons for choosing which is their 'real' Santa

I tell DD1 that nobody has ever seen the real Santa, but that men dress up as Santa around Christmas time and give presents to children.

i remember my mum telling us about the santa's helpers thing years ago (i'm nearly 40) and can remember that i did actually believe her and i'm sure i was lot older then 4.

DD knows that Santa is just a story but sometimes people dress up as Santa like any other story character.

Dd doesnt often question it but if she does I tell her he is very busy at this time of year and has lots of helpers.

None of the ones you see are the real Santa. He is far too busy preparing for Christmas - these are all helpers.

I've told dd(5) that he has lots of helpers who dress up, too. She decided that the one we met yesterday wasn't the real one as he 'wasn't fat enough' - ie not as fat as the 'real' one who sent her a video message recently

My DD worked this one out for herself at age 4 when she realised that the santa she'd just seen wasn't the same as the one she'd seen the previous year.

There is only one real Father Christmas at a time (North pole and sleigh job) - the ones in the grottoes are old ones who've retired and just do this to help out.

My Dad was one of santa's helpers when I was little!

He was Father Christmas for our primary school one year and my parents were terrified that my brother and I would blow his cover, so they told us that it was a very important and secret job, and we mustn't tell the other children that it was our dad! I felt very special that I had been let into this secret.
