Worried ... can that thumb sucking soothe a hungry baby ??

Hi all,

My 8 wo DS has started sucking his thumb. Although I find this very adorable Smile he has also started going longer between feeds. Is this just a coincidence or is he soothing his hunger by sucking his thumb ?? I always thought a hungry baby will let me know when he is hungry no matter what... was I wrong or am I worrying for no reason ??

Thanks !!
Jo.

Finger or thumb sucking never stopped DD from asking for feeds when she was hungry, so I wouldn't worry. Bear in mind that a lot of sucking is done for comfort (which is why dummies work, of course) so he may have just transferred the comfort sucking of you to the comfort sucking of his thumb. I wouldn't worry.

I'm pretty sure nothing soothes a hungry baby - they let it known when they need food :)

Thanks all !! This morning he let out his hunger cry while sucking his thumb... so I can definitely stop worrying :)

My dd2 is a thumb sucker. It never stopped her asking for feeds. It's just a comforter for her when she's tired.
