There's no way it was the baby.

The tights could work, if they're made of wool and fit snug enough then I don't see why it wouldn't work. I've not yet used wool. Do you just have the pants on over the nappy with no wrap?

My washing line is at last in nappy use. Thank chuff!

PurplePidjin · 06/03/2013 15:13

Wool has to be 100% wool (merino, cashmere etc) hand wash only. Rinse in warm water. Mix 1/4" lanolin per soaker with a squidge of gentle wash and some hot water. Squirt evenly over both sides. The wee mixes with the lanolin to make soap. Don't wash unless lanolising, every 4-6 weeks when they start to smell.

Fleece is breathable and water resistant, needs washing after use like a pul wrap.

R wears a fitted, then the soaker, then a babygrow, then his sleeping bag :)

Thanks for the info, I hope it works for you. Grin

The boys are in cotton, pul, cotton mamas but ds2 is under a cotbed duvet and ds3 in his bag.

I've seen loads of wool soakers for sale, they look lovely. Cheaper than PUL too!

It seems to be. Still doing the early morning nappy change bu he's less bothered by the whole thing iyswim. I have plain ones, would love pretty longies but not seen them cheap anywhere?

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 07/03/2013 09:40

There's a pre loved cloth group on FB and some are going for under a tenner. 'Pre Loved Cloth Nappies and Accessories' is its name. So, wool could be the answer for you then?! Good stuff. There were some going for under a tenner.

I'm full of a cold and the pressure inside my head is immense.

PurplePidjin · 07/03/2013 10:07

I'm in that on, shall check it out Thanks

Also full of cold, I'm a bfing snot ball, its all i plan to do today! Luckily dp has escaped unscathed so far and is keeping me in porridge and coffee. Is it bad that i quite like having him at home all the time? Blush (not just because he brings me Brew in bed!)

OP posts:
LeBFG · 07/03/2013 12:31

Everyone I know has a cold including me - even DS who is generally immune to everything... - everyone except the new girl (weirdly). Nice to hear your DP is well on the mend Pidj. Tea in bed!? Such luxuries are unheard of round mine.

Just put DD in a newborn Alva. Fit was perfect. Only have one though. The motherease wrap was faaaarrrr too big for her little thighs so we'll have to wait for her to bulk out unless I splash out on some more alvas.

I'm suddenly seeing the light wrt these woolly things. I found this page with some cute examples of soakers. I love v much the wool sleep sack. I shall experiment with some woolly tights on DS first. NH, you're right, they are a lot cheaper than PUL and I suppse you don't get the red lines on the skin or trouble trying to fit them on just right. Hmmm.....

NappyHappy · 07/03/2013 14:08

Nope tis not bad Pidj, wish I got Brew and Biscuit in bed. How is he getting on? Are you feeling OK?

I got some Otrivine from the chemist so that should help. Its just the change in the weather and it not deciding what it wants to do I think that's causing all peoples colds etc.

Aww, bet dd looks really cute BFG. How long were you in hospital for? Have you picked a French name or an English name for her? Squishy new babies Wink

PurplePidjin · 07/03/2013 14:28

He's fine i feel like death praying ds goes down for his nap so ican have one.

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 08/03/2013 11:27

Not good. I remember when ds3 was new and I used to really look forward to them both going to sleep at the same time so I could catch up. Ds1 was shouting in his sleep at 2am then ds3 woke at 4.

Was cleaning up dog piss off the kitchen floor just before midnight so that wound me up.

How did last nights nappy hold up?

PurplePidjin · 08/03/2013 14:58

I don't know if i could handle two littlies, but have got the implant so it won't be a problem. Three years gap minimum here!

Still changing around 3/4 am but his sleeping has improved dramatically - 8-2 then 3:45-6 last night. Would have been less of a gap if I'd done the nappy before the feed Blush

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 08/03/2013 21:09

The small people are easy to deal with its the oldest! I thought Peppa Pig was a chatter box. Jeez, he still wakes screaming and shouting most nights with his eyes open too which is Hmm Hmm

Last nights sleep sounds like a great improvement. All is gettin' good! Go R!!!

Baby D is waking more frequent for feeding but I just say to myself 'this too shall pass' in about 5 years!

I think after a bit you just get used to the lack of sleep Confused

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 09/03/2013 13:49

Hope everyone's colds are getting better, it's such a miserable time of year. Really cold and grey here today after a couple of nicer days in the week, which is depressing... God nappyhappy I feel bad complaining about my nights, I don't know how you do it! But thank you and rrreow for reminding me that NOT sleeping through is normal. Basically dd feeds to sleep then wakes a few times a night wanting more, I often end up sleeping in her bed as she wakes up again when I sneak off... She wakes at least twice a night and rarely goes more than 3 hours without waking but having said that at least she goes off to sleep again easily. And twice in the last week she's slept 9ish to 3ish solid which was bloody miraculous. She's had a really sore bum the last few days (after tucking into spicy lamb tagine!) Blush so been in a sposie at night with an inch-thick layer of sudocrem. Hilariously I've just bought her all new pjs as she outgrew the old ones - but with a sposie on, her bum's too small and they fall down when she walks! She looks like a clown, poor little thing! Grin

PurplePidjin · 09/03/2013 14:47

I can now breathe, and the sun is out, and someone switched my baby for a playing and sleeping one Shock it'll all be over on Monday when he hits 16 weeks but I'm enjoying it for now :o

Prefold+bamboo+wool seems to be the charm. Still changing, but he settled quicker

Who wants to nominate who? Wink

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 09/03/2013 20:27

Arse. Ive lost my reply. Pidj, pm me your email and I'll nominate you.

Biscuit, after a few years of child led sleeping you get used to it Have you ever used Metanium? Brilliant stuff. Poor lamb, is it really bothering her?

I gave ds3 some baby rice before and it didn't bother him, where has the last 6 months gone? He's started waking up more at night for feeding and feeding less in the day which is a bit Hmm

PurplePidjin · 10/03/2013 03:38

Cool, we can nominate each other :o pm incoming

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 10/03/2013 11:05

Brill, I shall sort it today.

I've ditched the bucket and detergent and am now using wet bags and an Eco Egg, if the egg impresses me which so far it is you can get 720 washes for £17!!! That'll last about a year or 3 based on 5-6 loads a week.

How was last nights sleep?

PurplePidjin · 10/03/2013 11:48

I wetbag downstairs and dry pail upstairs. Fewer nappies than you though Wink

4, 2, 1, 1 last night but settling periods were only 30-40 minutes.

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 10/03/2013 22:00

It doesn't help when ds2 goes through a double inserted nappy every 2 hours ATM, its normally 3-4 Hmm Captain PiddlePants! I'm so glad he can't undo the poppers on them. Yet. He is into and on everything. Keeps unlocking my phone and tries to text people.

Right, am doing the form now.

NappyHappy · 10/03/2013 22:00

R's sleeping is getting better! is he in your bed or a crib next to you?

PurplePidjin · 11/03/2013 01:33

Pf + bamboo (8) is clearly superior to pr + mf (6) might try both tomorrow. Although atnearly 12lb, the pf barely goes round him as it is Confused is there a bigger size? Different fold?

It's gradually getting back up to reasonable. 16 weeks today, 4 calendar a week tomorrow. We shall see what regression brings before tackling any issues!

Hope you've pm'd me back with your details Thanks

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 11/03/2013 01:35

Crib at the foot of the bed. For all my hippy credentials cosleeping doesn't work for us!

OP posts:
NappyHappy · 11/03/2013 10:02

Done.26 weeks my mini me is. Shock

NappyHappy · 11/03/2013 10:12

Pm'd you last night. I've put R down as being 16weeks?

You're breaking the hippy mould by not cosleeping! Wink however it is good that he is in his crib though it'll make it easier later on when it comes to being in his own room and self settling. And with DP getting over the stroke too I think you're doing the right thing.

I'm not sure how many other folds there can be, hopefully once he's sleeping longer the less of a pita it'll be.

I'll be getting the shriek machine weighed again tomorrow. He didn't have sleep regression at 4m more like 5 but that was just for more milk and now its either once or twice a night he wakes. There's 3lbs between our boys!

Going to start making him some food up and stored in the freezer ready for the next few weeks.
