My dr, however, is fab. Saw ds's cloth at his 8w check and said "Wow you really are doing it right" :o

That's the thing NH they probably would benefit from that sort of input. I hate the fact that there is no real support for parents. Hvs tend to put the shits up you as you feel like you have to prove yourself. I'm lucky that my current one seems to be sensible as we have ss involvement for ds due to his aspergers (he is on a plan at school and so they have to have some input, just not home checks etc) and ss referred me to early years because I have a new baby Angry It's totally pointless since it's at school that ds needs the extra help not dd2 at home. Hv was asked to do a plan for her and she said that she didn't know what to write as there are no issues to be addressed. Sadly the previous hvs I have had have all been awful, but I suspect it is part of their training to be as patronising as possible Hmm Maybe if they had less families to visit each and weren't so stretched they might be in a better position to actually help and give advice.

LeBFG · 23/01/2013 15:10

Glad I've missed out on the HV sagas. I've never met one. Do they need much training to become one? I can't believe some of the stories I read on MN about HV. I suppose some must be great but there seem to be a lot of plonkers.

I have no HV, but I have my own enemies to battle with however Sad. I saw the anaesthetist on Monday (he looked about 12) and he went on about 'the little idea I have in my head' about giving birth naturally . Patronising git. There are other issues I have with the inflexible hospital but I'm hoping to sort them out by hiring a private MW. I'm not really up for the fight (shed a tear watching Lion King with DS). Babs still cooking though so not all bad Smile. They also said if I hang on to 34 weeks (one week from now) in all likelihood, she'll miss the NICU and be able to come home with me. Yay! I've posted the 3D piccie of her on my profile

Bless you BFG. Or, you come over here to give birth??

My friend is training to be a HV and it requires you to have 5 years experience in nursing or I would've gone for it but, I think they are making it easier in the next few years!

The Dr's want me to speak to the hv's about getting ds2 in the nursery for a bit. I gave my head a wobble and went to the Dr's on Monday armed with my feelings on paper or I would never have gotten them out without crying all over the shop. Blush

So we all could be in the Home start gang too!

Its a shame we all don't live closer together. We could then freak everyone out with our normal-ness Grin

KentuckyFriedChildren · 23/01/2013 18:52

You know, HomeStart don't operate up here. Shame really as I bet there are loads of families that could benefit from that kind of help.

PurplePidjin · 23/01/2013 19:02

There's loads that could down here if only they could get access!

NappyHappy · 23/01/2013 20:42

Mad. Its so different where we all are. Thought it would've been pretty much the same everywhere.

And these are the services the Government are cutting back on?

PurplePidjin · 23/01/2013 23:46

Yep - cuts to the vulnerable while loopholes allowing the rich to pay no tax are ignored Sad

NappyHappy · 24/01/2013 08:03

It really upsets me too that people have to go to food banks. I'm a big soft arse.

KentuckyFriedChildren · 24/01/2013 10:31

No you're not being soft. Most people will be upset by that. My best friend lives with her parents and they had to do it just a few months ago. Because the government decided her sister was not disabled refused to pay carer's allowance and dla for her mum for her severely autistic sister. The sister is in ds's class, she's 5. Cunts. Her parents were mortified, her dad had just been layed off and her mum is the sister's full time carer. She tried to help them with money but she works for blockbuster and her hours have been cut several times in the last few months. Sad They had to go to the food bank to survive. Fucking arseholes in downing st wouldn't know a fucking thing about going hungry Angry

MrsReiver · 24/01/2013 11:54

Hi ladies, just checking in. Stressful night last night as the baby decided to stop moving at about 3pm and didn't move again. A bottle of lucozade and a bath got him/her on the go again but I was too scared to go to sleep so lay in bed waiting to feel movements. Not sure what time I finally succumbed to sleep but I definitely saw 2am.

I know a couple of slinging and/or cloth using Mums round here, and my cousin has a cloth bummed baby. She lives in the same council area so we're going to see if we can get something going round here, but most of the like minded people I know are either in facebook groups or forums like this.

Don't get me started on the government, the fact that we live in a country where bankers are given enormous bonuses for gambling (and losing) yet we have families who have to rely on food banks for the absolute basics is a complete and utter disgrace.

LeBFG · 24/01/2013 17:04

Hi MrsR - so sorry to hear you've been worried sick. When you're preggers everything is so stressful, you worry about every little thing. So pleased to hear everything is fine. The risk of stillbirth now (you're a couple of weeks ahead of me aren't you?) is really very low. You would have to be exceptionally unlucky for anything like that to happen Thanks. Have you had a scan recently? That can put your mind to rest. I had one on Monday. It does help. How are things going otherwise?

Just washed the Alva at 60C with all my other fluffs. Hope it'll be OK. I can't really do a separate wash for one nappy! It'll cope or not is my philosophy. Hope everyone is keeping warm. It's cold and very wet here. But no snow to speak of.

Greatly impressed at everyone's commitment to fluff (and social issues). Wow.

MrsReiver · 24/01/2013 17:35

I'm 35 weeks and had a scan at 33 weeks, I've got a midwife appointment on Monday so I'll get her to get the doppler out Grin

Other than that, things have been fantastic, I feel really well. From Monday I'm only working two days a week for a fortnight and then I'm off on maternity leave for nine months! Can't wait!

NappyHappy · 24/01/2013 21:25

Blardy 'ell Mrs R. Glad everything is OK. Hot baths used to get ds3 moving again then some days he'd just not stop. He's like that now at 19weeks!

Hey BFG, I wash the Alvas on a 60 and so far they've all done good. Glad you're OK too!

The government need to live in the real world for a week and see how hard it is.

DS3's head bashing is getting worse, 3 episodes of it I think last night. I normally have Classic FM on in his room to try and encourage a deeper sleep but changed it to Radio4 and so far he hasn't woke.

I'm actually in bed before midnight!! I just need to do a quick shop then sleeps!!

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 24/01/2013 21:58

Hey MrsR, glad you and bump are ok, roll on your mat leave so you can relax - and BFG well done on keeping the little one cwtched up in there... Growing tiny people is hard work! BFG I can't believe your doctor's attitude to having a 'natural' birth, I had heard anecdotally that labour was even more medicalised in France than here but the lack of support for you is really rubbish. And shocking at a time when, as you say, you're not up for a fight - it's like they're taking advantage of that to make you go along with what is most convenient for the doctors! Makes me v cross.

Another vote here for KFC for PM Grin I'm really shocked at how variable all the baby-related services are round the country and I would vote for your manifesto! At the moment I'm looking into becoming a bf peer supporter with a view to maybe training as a bfc one day. But it's an uphill struggle trying to find a way to do it, NCT have been useless and I thought they'd be biting the arm off people who wanted to help with stuff like that Confused

NappyHappy how's your boy? The headbanging sounds a bit worrying, is it just a stage, developmental type thing? Hope he sleeps well tonight - and so do you!

DD is in fluff for the second night - last night was successful! A second hand Bambeasy (bamboo fitted) (though I am suspicious that it is actually cotton) with the booster it came with, plus a hemp one, plus an LL bamboo, folded in half in the middle, with an airflow wrap over. 12 hours. No leaks! So tonight I'm experimenting with the same type of nappy, and just a hemp booster folded in half in the middle - last night her bum was so huge she was waddling along like John Wayne. We shall see if the hemp can take it, I'll report back! Bought a couple of 2nd hand bamboozles on fb to try too so awaiting delivery of those - and managed to sell 3 miosolos to fund it so am v pleased!

Wow this has turned into a mega post. Apologies. And thanks to anyone who bothers to read it all! (Nearly put xxx there. Oh dear. Been spending too much time reading stuff on the fb groups Wink )

KentuckyFriedChildren · 24/01/2013 22:07

Gawd this holiday we're booking is starting to get expensive Angry Dh and I are going to Malta to visit his family but of course that involves a bloody kennel and the dog needs her vacs booster plus bloody baggage costs (wtf is this not included, I mean who actually goes on holiday with no baggage????) Lucky we got the actual holiday so cheap. I can't wait, 10 more weeks :o pil were going to take the older two for a week anyway, think they want to go to thomasland or summat (rather them than me) but she said she'll take the wee one too so we are using dh's tax rebate (£1100- I nearly bloody fainted :o) to get a break. We didn't have a honeymoon so this will be it i suppose. Only 5 1/2 years late Wink

Bluetinkerbell · 25/01/2013 10:43

hi all! I gave cloth a try again after Christmas, but still not feeling the love, :( so decided to sell! Need o fund my new addiction... Wink baby carriers/slings!
Would anyone be interested if I list them later? Got some Lollipop bamboos, Little lamb OSFA's lots of pockets and newborn pockets...

MrsReiver · 25/01/2013 10:56

Yup, I think there would be plenty of folk interested Blue [bgrin] Slings really are a dangerous addiction - what do you have your eye on?

KentuckyFriedChildren · 25/01/2013 11:54

I'm loving the burns night smilies!!! Dd1 had haggis neeps and tatties for snack at nursery today [bgrin]
Blue there will be loads of interest. including me There are plenty nappy addicts users out there.
Slings are my other vice [bsmile]

MrsReiver · 25/01/2013 12:56

It will be haggis neeps and tatties for us tomorrow [bgrin]

I'm a bag of nerves, DS is in the final of the Burns competition at school. He's come second to the same kid for the last 3 years and he's up against him again. He's practised so hard and got his poem word perfect with some really fab intonation and a Morcambe-esque waggle of his specs at one point. Only 2 hours til I collect him and find out..... EEEEEEEEEEEEEK.

Bluetinkerbell · 25/01/2013 13:59

I have a Boba 3G in the post, which I just discovered I've been red carded for Angry
So will have to wait till tomorrow!

Haven't ventured into the woven wraps yet... Wink

Will sun get rid of breastfeed stains on nappies?
Just discovered that some of the nappies and inserts still have some stains on, so will have to wait to sell them until I can get the stains out, unless people don't mind them with stains, grmbl

rrreow · 25/01/2013 14:05

Sun should get the stains out. If you find any this time of year, please send some my way Grin
