Should my 4 week old spend more time awake by now?

He has a couple of periods of half an hour or so when he's awake and alert - apart from feeding times - but other than that he will sleep pretty much all day. Is this ok? I thought by this stage he should be working out that daytime is waking time but it seems not - should I be worried?

Thanks

I found that mine also slept this much at 4 weeks. I honestly wouldnt worry as at this stage it's all about the feeding and sleeping.

My ds slept practically all day at that age. As long as his putting on weight I wouldn't worry to much

DS2 has 2 x 1.5 hr awake times (including feeding times) + now a fussy awake spell in the late evening. He's 5 wks (though was born 2 weeks early). Yesterday he was only up for 45 mins though was awake in the witching hours late evening too.

If feeding's going ok and he's alert when he is awake, I'd say it sounds fine.
