my ds is nearly 4, and is in nappies at night. he was doing well with poos in the toilet, til an episode of painful constipation (now resolved). this was ages ago, but he is still frightened about going on the toilet, and insists on a nappy when he needs to poo. I have tried offering rewards. should I just leave him be, and hope eventually he will sort it out for himself? any advice please!

dOES he sit or stand when he is doing a poo? I did hear that for children that are like this it is a good idea to get them to resit on the potty in the nappy then losen it after a few days then try and get him to sit down without it. Also up his fruit/water and juice intake so it doesnt come back.

Different methods work for different kids depending on how stubbon they are.

oh yes I have one of these. She is 3.6 and has NEVER had a poo in the loo or a potty. She suffered from bad constipation (now resolved) and poos standing up clenching her buttocks

I have tried bribery, persuasion, star charts, begging....

Nothing!
