2 and a half year old with Mummy obsession - anyone else had this?

DD is driving me crazy at the moment - I was just wondering if it's normal and if I can do anything to improve things!

She is just being so clingy with me all the time, all we hear is "I want Mummy", "I love Mummy", "I need Mummy sooo much", "I don't like Daddy", "I don't like Granny" (as you can imagine this is upsetting for DH and DM but also no picnic for me as I have to do everything for her!)

For the last couple of days she has been demanding that I carry her from room to room and up and downstairs.

Every morning she questions me about whether I am going to work or not (I only go 2 days a week!). She has previously been fine with this and looked forward to her "Granny days" - now she cries when I go

She has spent every minute today sitting on my lap, hugging me, holding the hem of my skirt as I walk round the house.

I am pregnant, which she seems to have a good understanding of - so I wonder if this is related?

Yes and yes! My DD was exactly the same. She's always been quite a 'mummy's girl', but increasingly so from 2.5. It got more and more intense as the pregnancy went on and I was terrified about how I'd cope. Baby DS was born 4 months ago when DD was 2.11. She adores him and had been much, much less clingy towards me and happier for daddy to do things again.

I don't have any advice really, apart from trying to see the nice side of it! I tried to make time for lots of cuddles. We had baths together - she liked washing my bump - and snuggled up for naps sometimes. It's very, very hard though, for everyone, so I sympathise.

Yes. Then I went away for nearly a week and when I got back DD (2.6) had turned into a daddy's girl

My dd has been like this forever. She's just turned 4 and is still the same. She has an 8mo baby sister now and she adores her but she's just as clingy to me as ever.

aprilrain - I can see DD being mummy's girl forever tbh. The next baby is a boy so I'm wondering if DH will get more of a look in!

Had awful day yesterday in which she followed me round the house, whining and demanding to be carried from room to room . . . ended up shouting at her and feel terrible . This clingy behaviour combined with my pregnancy hormones is not a good combination

Just wondering if it's better to force her to spend time with DH and DM or to give into it and let her be with me 24/7 till the phase passes?

Hello! Same here although she's not particularly whingy - she just will not leave me alone and has lost interest in DH. DD is 2.7.
Funnily enough, I'm also pregnant (she knows). No advice but lots of sympathy! I'm having to do lots more than usual, just when I'd like to do a lot less.

However they do like to spend time with their daddy. He goes fun stuff with them like park and baking.
Maybe your dh could try the same?

Hi butterfly, DH does take her out and they both enjoy their time together - it's the only time he gets any attention from her! But in the last few months she cries and doesn't want to go without me which makes it hard for everyone.

Oh well, this too shall pass!

Another Mummy's girl here. DD is 2.9 and has always been very focused on me - DH didn't bond well with her when she was younger & I always wonder if that is the underlying issue.

She will in the last couple of months let him do things with her - get dressed, nappy change etc - as long as I'm not in the house. If I'm nearby & she knows it no-one else will do. It's draining, but equally I do cherish our close bond.

Yes, only mine was a DS! It changes as they get older and more boisterous and soon Daddy becomes more "fun" so make the most of it

In the meantime, make sure you're not encouraging her and don't pander to it because it is hurtful to DH and GPs. Ultimately at 2, it's not her choice who bathes her etc.
