Present for DD from the new baby!?

I'm 30wks pregnant with number 2, and DD is 4. DD's 5th birthday is 2.5wks after my due date.

Does everyone do the buying a present from the baby thing!? Does it make any difference, is there much point?

We'll have christmas (DD has 2 things on her list), present from baby, and her birthday within a few wks.

I'm struggling to think of a nice gift idea with it being so close to xmas and her birthday and need some inspiration.

Advice needed please MN pro's who've done all this before!

We bought dd a gift as she kept eying up this that were bought for baby especially ones that came from relatives. We basically let her pick a present for the baby from big sis and I boIght the teddy she liked later in from baby bro. She loved how well he was listening in there!

This was just after her 5th b'day and went down well. G parents also bought little token gifts - my dm bought outfit for her doll and outfit for ds etc.

No, didn't bother - I don't think it makes any difference in terms of accepting the sibling. Won't be doing it this time around either.

I can still remember the present I got when my brother was born.

We got DS1 a St Christopher pendabt engraved with 'Big Brother', a spongebob fishing game and some chocolate.

His god-parents bought him a tool bench and too kit for 'being such a good brother!' cheesy but he always says 'Baby DS2 bought me these!' so he does remember 8 months on!

DS2 is being delivered 21/12... DS1 is 3. From the christmas budget we have gotten him a lovely wooden castle, however he will get this "from the baby" when we come home from hospital (whether that is 23 or 24th). For meeting baby Whilst in hospital ive made him Up a little goody bag of small (quiet) toys - car slinky bubbles etc, that I plan to give to him before I even mention baby - so like something for us to play with to "reconnect" (a MN recommendation) which also has a small choc bar. Then "baby" has gotten him a crayola wonder pad and pens - something for him to do and mess free! Hoping that all makes him feel not pushed out etc but also occupies him at hospital too.

If baby were not due right on xmas then he would still get a gift just a smaller one.

We did the "from the baby" gift from DD2 to DD1 - it was a small plastic bit of tat Cinderella carriage with a horse & footman. 6 years later she still has it

The first time DD1 held her baby sister, we had hidden a few chocolates in the baby's blanket for her to "find". I think both definitely made DD1's first impression of the baby a very favourable one and I'm glad we did it.

No, we didn't. Made more of a "thing" of how "we" (ie, ds, dh and I) were all having a new baby, and it was exciting, having a new baby. Wanted him to welcome her for being a new baby, not because she brought him something material.

I'm due 23rd December and am having a similar dilema. I floated the idea past DS (2.9) by saying 'I wonder if the new baby will bring you a present when he arrives'. His response was 'don't be silly Mammy, there are no shops in your tummy, the baby would have to go to Asda' !! Too sensible for his own good!

DS1 was almost 4 when DS2 came along. I made sure that I wasn't holding the baby when he arrived to visit and gave him my undecided attention for a while. I didn't mention the baby until he asked. The baby in the next bay started crying and he asked if it was our baby. I said no, our baby is sleeping and invited him to come and look. In the fishtank cot, beside the baby, was a present with a big label "for XX" It was a lovely story book, we made sure to have some one on one time with him each day and read from his special book. I also tried hard to make sure we read at a time we wouldn't be disturbed by the baby but (as long as the baby was just fussing and not actually full on crying) if he started to make a noise I would say "Sorry xx but I'm reading to your big brother so you'll have to wait" Just to make the point to DS1 that he was important still too.

We ordered a gift for dd (2.9) but as little brother was a week early, he arrived before it did!

Turns out that the novelty of a new brother was enough for dd- that and the mountains of presents she has received from friends and family. She asked if it was Christmas!

So we are not giving her a gift from the baby, and will save it for her Christmas present (ds now 10 days old).

I'm not sure it's necessary to get a gift from the baby now- but maybe it would be wort having something small eg a book lined up, just in case of wobbles.
