Washing reusable nappies on holiday - need advice

Hi all,

Warning - this may be a long post

I am using muslins for my 5 wo DS... I bought a set of Bumbles, but started off with muslins as the Bumbles looked too bulky on him and he was uncomfortable at times.. I've stuck with muslins as he seems to be happy in them and I really don't mind all the folding :)

Now I'll be travelling to India and staying there for about 2 months (need some post delivery pampering from my mum ) and would really like to continue using the muslins while I'm there (also I cannot carry all my Bumbles with me - that's just too much luggage !)

1. I do have a washing machine in India but i don't think it has any temperature settings - so I won't be able to wash the muslins at 60 degrees. In that case, do you recommend soaking overnight in hot water and then washing at normal temp? Do I use something specific to soak the muslins ??

2. I've been using paper liners till now, but would like to know if fleece liners are better as they keep the skin dry? (also ... I don't have to carry rolls of paper liners with me and can just wash and reuse the fleece liners)

I always used fleece liners and very rarely washed nappies above 40 or soaked ever. At least muslins will dry super fast

Used washables but I thought that the 60C thing was to kill harmful bacteria. I 'm not sure though and you might want to post in the nappies section to make sure.

Fleece liners are fine. Have a lovely trip .

Should add, that by three months you aree going to be changing muslins constantly they can do a pretty impressive wee by that point, you might need something inside as a soaker pad. Pack of cheap flannels?

GobblersSparklyExplodingKnob, I do use bamboo boosters at night time... will they be fine for the 3 month massive wee stage ??

You may want to move on to terries by the time your ds is 8 weeks or so, they may fit and work better. I bet you can buy them there. You may find it harder to get nice wraps though.

Any recommendations for terries or it doesn't matter which brand I pick up ??

As long as you can do a rinse beforehand (either in the machine or by hand if necessary) I hardly ever wash my nappies above 40 degrees.

One other really minor point, paper liners actually wash pretty well and will do about 3 or 4 goes before they fall apart. If they had poo then I chucked them, if it was just a wet nappy I just threw them in the wash with the nappies. I found this out buy accident after accidentally putting a few in the wash and then always carried on using them until they fell apart. It might save you on taking rolls and rolls of the things out with you. I would stick to using paper liners as they are much easier when getting rid of poo, I found pooey fleece liners quite a pain, especially at the pre-weaned stage (once they are eating solid food poos are much more 'solid' and easier to get rid of!).
