Alternative parenting method/book

Does anyone know of a book about parenting or method of parenting that focuses on enabling the child to make good decisions and understand consequences? I believe that very young children need strong boundaries and rules to help them learn what is acceptable behaviour. I don't think that children learn the 'ground rules' unless they are clear.

But, what happens when they get a bit older? Our eldest is now 5.5 and knows what is acceptable behaviour but she sometimes chooses to do what she knows is unacceptable. So, she's just like any other five year old. My worry is that she needs to learn to make decisions for herself rather than just doing what she is told. It's all going to fall apart during the teenage years if we don't teach her this and that she is still loved when she makes mistakes. I don't expect things to change over night but I do want to equip her for life without me always telling her what to do!

"Win or lose by how you choose." by Judge Judy Sheindlin.

An absolutely fabulous book that you sit and read through with your child(ren) going through the dilemmas posed and discussing the answers both given and your own.

Bought a few of her books but would not be without this one Grin

How To Talk So Kids Will Listen... is great, and practical.

(Need to re-read myself!)

The premise behind Unconditional Parenting is that all children can and will do what you want, OP. Whether it works in reality is moot, mind.
