And if so, can I be in it? Dd2 is 2.3, I'm sure she's old enough, I just have to psych myself into doing it, and need someone to bully me.

I'm starting with DS2 (2.7) on Monday - I'd be very glad of some empathy!

eastendgirl · 31/03/2006 20:46

Take her nappy off when she is at home and see what happens, if after a few days of accidents she is not using the potty or the loo, then she is not ready. I did it with my ds, he peed everywhere the first week, and then it clicked, he started using the potty, after a day the toilet, after a couple of days the local public loos, and today he finally accepted to pee in the park. 2 weeks in total. As long as you explain what she is meant to do, pretend you don;t care when she pees on your fabulous wooden floors and praise her lots when she gets it right, then it should be fairly stress free. My ds is 2.6, poohs are proving more problematic though, only 50% end up in the toilet, but I am sure it will click very soon.

I might have another go with DD2. She is 2 on Sunday. Had a very feeble attempt at half term. Gave up after she did the world's biggest poo on the living room floor and stepped in it before wailing 'Dirty, mummy, dirty!'

my DD is only 21 months BUT she keeps taking her nappy off and saying "wee"

so I put her on the potty and nothing

then yesterday morning she took her nappy off and said "wee" and promptly pooed on the carpetShock then cried cos she was covered in poo AND the carpet is beige !!!!!

shes definitely not ready but thinks she is AngryWink

Right, have bitten the bullet when we got back from school/nursery run this afternoon.

Tally so far: 2 sets of wet knickers, and two wees in the potty. Currency here is 1 sticker for a wee (in the potty, obviously), two for a poo. May have to break out the choc buttons, but will hold fire for the moment.

Start properly in the morning. But dd2 will have to go to ballet in knickers -- argh! Dettox wipes and change of clothes will have to come too.

Ooooooo, can I join the Easter holiday thread too? DD is just 2 but am preg with DS who is due in the summer so want DD out of nappies before then. I think she is ready so was planning to try over Easter when DH is home to help wipe up wee Wink. Frogs, think I will use the same currency as you as DD is sticker mad!

Tommy · 31/03/2006 21:58

I'm scared.....Grin Don't want to do it now...
(will start on Mon when PILs have gone)

frogs · 01/04/2006 21:47

Tally today -- wee in the potty pretty much every hour on the hour, no wet pants! One poo in nappy first thing this morning, no poos in potty though...

frogs, can I quickly butt in and ask whether you would use the sticker system for a child who is completely dry but seems a bit unsure about using the loo for poohs. Only 50% successfull till now which I thought was good going, except that he has not been for 2 days now, unheard of when he was in nappies, so I think he is holding it. Do you think I should use stickers? What a bore, what a bore..

expatinscotland · 01/04/2006 22:46

have been offering dd1 (2.9) a go every hour or so. she'd been asking. but she just sits on it and does nothing. she likes the flush and then turn the taps on, tho.

moondog · 01/04/2006 22:48

My ds is 21 mths tomorrow and I'm going to have a crack at it when I leave for Turkey for a month in two weeks time.
Pt it this way, there'll be fuck all else to do while I'm there......

ETsmum · 02/04/2006 19:19

Ohhh, if there is going too be a Coddesque potty training over Easter, count us in! I need all the moral support I can get :) We are "hoping" to start on the 8th I think, so dh can help over the weekend.

WideWebWitch · 02/04/2006 19:21

Oh god, I was hoping to come here and read that 2.5mos is too young but apparently not. I can't quite face it but she will keep taking her nappy off and says she wants a potty.

Tommy · 02/04/2006 19:24

think we will have to postpone as DS2 has spent all morning in the A&E with possible broken foot... Sad Have to go back to fracture clinic tomorrow so think I will leave the potty training for a while!

ETsmum · 02/04/2006 19:25

Oh no Blush Looks like my ds may be the oldest (2.8) I'm at the stage where all his friends seem to be sorted.....but I KNOW I shouldn't compare.......

ETsmum · 02/04/2006 19:26

Tommy - hope ds2 is ok? What have they done to his foot? And what did HE do to it?

Tommy · 02/04/2006 19:36

fell off bouncy castle - not too serious but couldn't put any weight on it. Is walking a bit better now so hopefully all ok. Thanks.
DS1 was 10 days off his third birthday when we got going on the potty training so don't worry about it if you think yours is a bit late. He's 4 now and still wears one at night - tried to get him to go wothout tonight but he wouldn't

ETsmum · 02/04/2006 19:41

Thanks Tommy....I know around 3 is still "normal." It's just sooo frustrating as he will stand there (in a nappy) and tell us either as he is doing a wee or wahtever, or straight after. But any mention of the loo or potty and he looses the plot :(

Your poor ds2.....I'm just waiting for the 1st fracture/break!

knat · 02/04/2006 19:51

well i've been trying with my dd (21/2 this month) for the last couple of months - had a break fo a couple of weeks recently and have re-started for a week. She's v good with poos and tells you when she's doing them or feels like doing them! Wees are another matter! She will do them on the potty if you try her on it and she feels like it but invariably when she's ready to wee she'll just do it where she is. She knows where to do it but just doesn't. She will go on the toilet as well. We're doing stickers and chocolate buttons but still not enough incentive! Any ideas? By the way she never has an accident when we're in teh car or out and about (unless its at someones house).

Tommy · 02/04/2006 20:02

With DS2, we started earlier and it seemed to be going OK then it all went to pot so I put him back in nappies for another few weeks. He went pretty quickly when we started again.

wessexgirl · 02/04/2006 20:10

Hello, I'll be in - I'm going to start dd1 on Friday. She is 2.6 and I would like her to be mainly dry by Easter. I think she is definitely ready and she has sat on the potty a few times but not done anything in it yet. Tbh, I'm a bit worried that she doesn't like the potty. I might buy a toilet seat & step stool tomorrow.

I'm really dreading this so it'll be great to have a few other mumsnetters in the same boat Smile.

frogs · 02/04/2006 20:12

At the risk of making everyone hate us, the tadpole has been doing pretty well, with no wet pants today or yesterday. But I do put her on the potty every hour and a half or so. Poos have mainly been in her nappy first thing in the morning and after her lunch-time nap, so we may be in for some unwelcome suprises.

We're reading the Little Princess 'I Want My Potty' book, which is a big hit, and she's v. proud of her 'big girl pants'.

OP posts:
wessexgirl · 02/04/2006 20:32

Ooh, I'll get that book for dd1, sounds like good preparation. She definitely likes the idea of big girl knickers as well.

Twirl · 02/04/2006 22:13

We've got that book too and DD loves it. I've also just got her 'On your potty' by Virginia Miller as she is really into bears at the moment. I think I'm going to start training on Maundy Thursday and read her these books every day from now until then...
