I'm trying to come up with some ideas to give to my family/in-laws as to what they can buy my almost 2-year-old for Christmas (and birthday shortly afterwards).

So, what do your 2 year olds enjoy playing with?

Brio train set, happy hopperz bouncing cow, toy cars, happyland stuff, books, postman pat DVDs (not really a toy but a major obsession!).

Dd loves her Happyland set, she has the alien Martian Moon House and all the things that go with it!

For Christmas we (and others) have got her:

Toy kettle
Toaster
Cash register
Kitchen
Medical kit
Toddler size table and chairs (£17 IKEA!)
Doll with accessories

These are all things I know she will love along with any book and stickers

ELC magnet cars are played with a lot, plus the london bus with people to get on and off to their hearts content!

My dd loves her tea set, brio train set, doll and pushchair but her favourite thing is her hobby horse which I bought for £5 from The Works (cheap book shop). She plays with it every day galloping round shouting "Ya-ha" (hasn't quite mastered yee-ha!)

DS loved toy kitchen, happy land and anything Thomas. Dd also loved kitchen stuff, have a look at Melissa and Douglas food sets on amazon. She also loved Melissa and Douglas dressing up bears and her Mini Micro Scooter, which she still uses almost every day three years later.
