Keeping a toddler's trouser legs rolled up

Is there some sort of genius solution to this I haven't thought of? My children are clearly blessed with short legs (that'll be my genes) as trousers are always a couple of inches too long. I roll them up, they unroll, I roll them up, they unroll. Etc. For ever. I don't want to shorten them because obivously their legs are growing longer. I thought about sewing a button onto each leg and some sort of clever loop, but I can't be arsed. Is there something else I haven't thought of? Bulldog clips perhaps?!

I think if you sort of fold them up and then iron them they stay in place better. Disclaimer I have never tried this as I HATE ironing, but a friend swears by it... Bulldog clips sound good

Ours (2.1 YO) has piggy little legs too - she's long bodied and so am I so prob is genetic! We only ever put her in leggings/jeggings (with Aldi thermal long johns on underrneath for extra warmth on winter walks) and these stay rolled up just fine - she's worn some of her leggings for about 18 months or so! We just bought them sized 18-24 months when she was 7-8 months old and she's worn the same ones since then (rolled up). It's baggy trousers that are useless as they have to fit the leg length exactly or they just aren't practical. We also find they are often too wide in the waist unless they are fully adjustable or completely elasticated (round the whole waist, not just at the back) whereas leggings are totally elasticated round the waist and so they seem to fit better. Maybe just get some leggings or jeggings? Denim leggings/jeggings also seem to be aimed at girls, but they look just like skinny-ish jeans so I'm sure boys could wear them too. You could of course use a big stitch you can easily take out and just tack oridinary trousers up to the right length but if you're making several folds they might end up too bulky around the bottoms.

Primark have toddlers and older kids skinny jeans (stretch-denim) for £4-6 at the moment in lots of colours and they stay folded/rolled up really well.

I have this issue with DS2 and DS3. Ironing does work. However, I don't DO ironing. Therefore the button/loop combo is what I have done in the past. Or resigning myself to rolling them up every 5 minutes.

I don't like skinny jeans on my toddlers, my DC find them too restrictive.

Would I be mad to suggest that you just take them up/sew around the turnup?

I sewed the poppers up on DS's dungarees because they just kept coming unpopped and haven't looked back - 5 mins work saved continually having to re-pop him together.

I second the recommendation of the Primark trousers - my DS has a red pair and they stay rolled up fine. Mind you the legs on them are INCREDIBLY long.

I don't tend to find this a problem - my DS also has short legs and trousers tend to stay rolled up. Except for pyjama bottoms. I did actually get round to taking up the hems of his pyjamas - I didn't cut anything off so when he grows I can just let them down.

OP doesn't say how old the kids are. Our toddler (2.1) has never worn any form of jeans as I think they are far too bulky on a small child and I dont wear them myself as i have never found any pair of jeans, whether stretchy or not, comfy to wear due to bulky seam placement, but I do wear jeggings. LO now also has jeggings and they are just the same as normal leggings (soft and stretchy cotton with totally elasticated waist band and no bulky seams) but a bit thicker than ordinary ones and look like denim - but they are definitely not restrictive! The skinny jeans I have seen in Primark were stretchy material not dissimilar to jeggings, but they did have a zip and button fastening rather than just elastic around the waist. Not sure they are really jeans though, as they seemed quite thin, soft and stretchy material just made to look like jeans, so may be worth a look, especially for older kids who may want to wear jeans. They also had jeggings without the button fly so you could compare them.

I found this too and could never get any to stay up. The only ones I found that were any good were the Sainsbury's range with the roll-up buttoned bits, then they'd be the right length for ages.

Or look out for "cropped" trousers? Which won't be cropped if legs are only little, but hopefully wont be too long at least. Again you'll probably have to look in the "girls" trousers section for cropped styles though.

Thanks for all the replies! It's DS's trouser legs that are driving me scatty - he's 16 months and big but apparently not big enough for 12-18 month trousers which all trail on the ground. The day I posted he was actually wearing fleece trousers, so ironing not an option, but I'm a non-ironer too

He is cloth-bummed so generally in baggy trousers (though in some tight Sainsbo's ones today).

With DD I looked for the ones you roll up with a button but there don't seem to be as many for boys plus they're generally not in stretchy fabric (I am all about the cotton jersey).

Not keen on taking them up as I'm too lazy would have to keep redoing it presumably as he grew but a single stitch would probably work and not eat into my MNing busy schedule too much. Will look at Wonderweb too! :)

A quick stitch through each side of the seam?

I have this issue with 14 month old ds too. Mostly cos he's so skinny so they fall down around the waist.
Anyway, I hugely recommend baby leggings from eBay. Two quid, free delivery and loads of boy friendly designs :) just type in baby leggings and a few sellers do them. Love them so much we've got 4 pairs and they're so comfy for him to crawl/cruise about in.

Ahem. The definitive solution.

Roll them up inside out and then put them on the kids the right way so the roll is on the inside.

A bit of a faff taking them on or off (requires a finger pinch at the bottom to hold it rolled, but stops them catching and unrolling.
