thank god dh just took over dinner time coz i think ive lost the plot today...

feeling preg and emotional today which doesnt help, but i was recounting the drag walk home from school and just burst into tears because i honestly thought 'how the hell am i going to do this'. was already carrying a knackered 2yr ds with a 24wk bump, when almost 4yr ds (who had been splashing relentlessly despite my warnings and had soaking trousers) decided i needed to carry him too. obviously this isnt going to happen so ended up pretty much dragging him home in the rain, we got in and all 3 cried for a bit, then i decided i shall drive to school (round the bloody corner) from now on coz im not doing that again.
dh is on a high having just broken up for half term so here i am in bed on the laptop while he deals with dinner. bliss!!
but on a serious note... nearly 4yr old refusing to walk when there is no alternative...what the hell is one supposed to do?? im running out of threats/bribes!

Why don't u take a push chair/buggy board with u given their ages and the fact u are pregnant.
My DS is just 4 and I would still take a pushchair if we're going anywhere which relies on him walking because quite frankly I'm 38 weeks PG too and I can't rely on him to walk and there is no way I am carrying him.
Couldnt care less if people think he's too old for a pushchair, he doesn't always get in it but far rather have it as a back up than the horrendous situation that must have been for you!
And you definitely cant rely on a 2 year old to walk!

yes people do think he's too old for a pushchair (as i have been told while pushing the double buggy up the hill!), so to quell the nosey neighbours i put away the double and use a single for ds2 while ds1 walks, and to his credit 90% of the time he enjoys the walk and 'helps' me push it. but today i guess because of the rain and being friday he was knackered, it just wasnt happening. maddening though because its such a short distance it seems bonkers to think about driving there! i'll prob get the village talking about that too!
do you carry the pushchair in one hand and hold his hand with the other, or just have it in the car just in case?

Just do whatever you need to do to make it as easy as possible. Take advantage of any help, props etc & try to remember it's hard work sometimes but it's not forever!! On our walk home today my DD stepped in a huge pile of dog poo then 2 mins later it started to hailstone while the baby cried all the way! Oh the joys! Am now cosy, warm & drinking wine :)

I would just push the pushchair and have him walk alongside it. Or leave it in the car, but if we go to a shopping centre we just take it out cos if he refuses to walk I can't face the battle.
I honestly can't believe people comment to you on it, they are such busy bodies and I'd like to see them try and cope with the situation u had today!

If I didn't take a pushchair I'd take a scooter, never go anywhere with kids without wheels! But I find my 4 year old DS quite worrying on the scooter so i prefer the push chair!
