Babies and fireworks

Is it ok to take a 10week old to a fireworks display? I promised my 5year old that we could go to her school fireworks display without really thinking about wether it was appropriate to bring the baby! I could bring her in the carrier all wrapped up n cosy and it's walking distance away - though it can't be seen from our house- so I could get back easy enough if needs be. Has anyone else taken a baby to a fireworks display? I wouldn't want baby to be scared/startled though I suspect she'd just be asleep!

Mine was really really scared by the fireworks last year at Guy Fawkes. She was about 8 months. Maybe a 10 week won't be scared of loud bangs yet?

I mean as in proper scared, all shaking and crying uncontrollably. We had to leave as she wasn't settled even when she was held.

I doubt a 10 week old would notice, but I'd take them in a sling if you have one so that she's near to your heartbeat and comforting smell etc, also you can do your coat up around her a bit to protect her from the smoke and lights.

I took my ds2 when he was a baby, not a newborn v young baby though but he really liked it he just watched them and looked at the colours. You can get earmuffs to protect from the noise, not sure if they would fit on a 10 week old?
If shes wrapped up and in carrier she would probably just sleep as you say...
If you can leave easily if necessary then I would just go for it, liklihood she will be fine?

I took my ds2 at 2 weeks old to fireworks. Hat on, in snowsuit so warm then in sling. He slept through the whole thing!

I wouldn't, mainly because of how much waiting around there is in the cold. I wouldn't put a small baby through that, or the unnecessary loud bangs.

mine have all been to fireworks as babies, wrapped up cosy in a sling, hat on to help muffle the sound and if i needed to i put my hand over their ears but they were fine. ime it was once they were a bit older that they were scared of the bangs, we got ear protectors and also some fireworks displays are for children and have fireworks that dont bang so loud :)

Last year we bundled our 7mo in a sling with a pair of ear defenders on him. He watched for a bit then dozed off. We have the Peltor jnr ones & this is the second dc they are on. They still fit the 7yo - bit snug though!

We took ds last year when he was 9wks. In snowsuit in arms (we shared the load!) and he was snug and warm - and distinctly underwhelmed by the whole affair! :) quite a lot of standing around but that was more an issue for us than ds.

He LOVES lights now so can't wait to take him this year at nearly 14mths :)

toot interesting on the ear defenders. Can you recommend good ones? I'm debating wether to take my 9mo dts but like the op am worried on them being afraid. Don't want to stay at home needlessly though if they would be ok. I'll probably be a wuss though

We took 6 week old DS to a pirate reenactment complete with cannons, gunshots and firework display at the end and he wasn't fazed in the slightest. Once they get to about 4 months they startle a bit easier, but he was no trouble, didn't wake up for the most part!

Thanks for the replies! I think we'll go for it. I think that making sure she's not due a feed is another key factor. We took dd1 to her 1st fireworks at 2yrs old and she loved it. As dd2 is so tiny I reckon she'll be oblivious. Perhaps 5month+ could be startling if they were awake?

We took our 7-month old last year, he was fine. Seemed completely uninterested in the bangs, looked at the lights a bit then fell asleep. We had ear defenders, but I'm not convinced he needed them. Now he's 18 months he won't keep the ear defenders on for more than 3 seconds anyway, so we'll try without this year.

minesa we got ours off a website & they have been great for fireworks & festivals that we have attended. Dd was quite happy to wear them - don't think we are going to be so lucky with ds!
Did see Gwyneth Paltrow's dc with them on watching their dad - so bit of seleb endorsement there!
