Hi,

My baby boy (no names decided yet) is only 7 days old Smile and I was wondering if it's too soon to try and put him on Tracy Hogg's EASY routine ??

Cheers,
Jo

And Tictok is right. No book is an instruction manual. If its seen as "do this all will be perfect" then a feeling of uselessness creeps in.

No one method of parenting is right for every baby or parent.

I don't know how I missed out - but I didn't find out about all the baby books until I had my second child (think because I had children before all of my friends) so I just worked out what worked for us... which was basically BF on demand, sling, co-sleeping etc. Newborns are so easy to have around so DDs just stayed with me until I was ready to go to bed at around 10.30 or 11 - and they gradually put themselves into a routine of going to bed earlier when they need less daytime sleep. Co-sleeping meant that I was never sleep deprived - in fact I don't think I've ever had as much sleep as when I had newborn babies in the house! Both my children (4 and 2) now sleep about 8-8 without a nap, but I still believe in being flexible so if they are really tired in the middle of the day or if we are on holiday somewhere hot, then they have a nap and stay up later! I especially love it when one of them is up later at night so that I can have some special one-on-one time.

Wow !! Thanks for all your replies Smile
I've been away from mumsnet for sometime and hence the late reply....
I'm no longer bothered about a routine and things are sooo much better now Grin
I'm also reading 'The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding' - thanks for recommending it...

I found her sleep tips quite useful (PUPD definitely a million miles better than CC/CIO) but her feeding stuff was rubbish if you breastfeed. Also, trying to keep a tiny baby awake after a feed - WHY?! Grin Nonsense - babies need/want to sleep on a full stomach.
