2 year old seems to be able to poo on purpose (or hold it in) - time to potty train?

Ds is 2 and a month and seems to be able to poo on purpose (when it suits his purposes) or hold it in if he thinks he's about to do one in the bath. Given this, would you attempt potty training yet? He is so manipulative when he wants to be I am quite worried about starting as think it will be a nightmare. Advice?

Should say, he is also a charming and very cheerful boy when he wants to be as well.......
