Help - 5 mth old stopped sleeping in cot

Until now my DS has been a pretty good sleeper - much better than my DD, but this week that has all stopped and he won't sleep in his cot for more than an hour at a time and mostly its been about 30 minutes if he doesn't wake up as soon as we put him in.
He's not hungry as I don't always need to feed him and my DP can settle him - he just wants to sleep on one of us. He is teething and he has a cold but even so I would have thought I could expect him to sleep for a couple of hours once he is down. I'm using calpol & neurofen (within the guidelines) and also ambesol.
I'm getting desperate as I'm trying to look after 2 children of 2 and 5 mths on about 3 hours sleep a night!
Any help/advice or sympathy greatly appreciated!

Have you had his ears checked at the GPs?

I with you. Five month old baby girl here doing the same thing. Personally I'm hoping it's the four month sleep regression coupled with wonder week nineteen, with a bit of teething and a cold mixed in. It will pass. I'm just relying on coping strategies like co sleeping to get thru it. I remember this point being tough with my three year old too. It got better after six months. Fingers crossed!

All bets are off when they're ill - don't worry, just do what he needs (falling asleep on you if that's what it takes) and things will go back to normal when he's better. Colds hit babies very hard and they really just need what they need while it lasts. DD had her first cold at 9m and DH and I took turns sleeping with her - I'd do one half of the night and he'd do the other so we both got about five hours at least. Co sleeping can be a great short term strategy when they're ill.
