Fantastic 40+ Mums

Mum of 2, DS1 nearly 4yo and DD2 almost 11 weeks. I hope to find here advices from experienced mums so that I can avoid mistakes... I made some with DS1 and my life sometimes is hell, it is hard to unlearn wrong behaviour, so hard.
At the time being, DD2 is a very sweet baby, she is easy to decipher, cries are always related to some kind of discomfort and I managed to learn what they mean, or almost. Only one issue with her ATM is that she rejects bottle feeding even with expressed milk. I'd like to be able to escape a bit from the house to get a haircut or a facial. And I am sure DH would like to feed her sometimes too.
I struggle a bit more with DS1, who is usually a good boy, energetic, happy and loving. But after school, getting him to take his bath is a battle and falling and staying asleep all night are big issues. The problems did exist before but now with the recent arrival of his sister, the intensity has increased. Or maybe they are the same but to me they seem bigger and need to be addressed quickly so that I can look after both without raising my voice.
All advice are welcome. I need help here.

Also I'd like to invite all the graduates from the Fantastic 40+ Mums to be thread to join. You have been truly fantastic and so supportive during my pg. I hope to be able to keep on sharing with you this wonderful parenting adventure.

baby seaside has been suspiciously sleepy this evening - a wakeful night awaits! bbd I like the kissing-to-sleep method, how lovely!
midget you'd think a new baby would trump being an old lady, especially when we are pretty old ourselves ...
goat did you txt me? I couldn't open it - hope it was baby photo - in which case do send again!

BadMissM · 15/12/2012 02:11

bytheseaside live in a town by the seaside full of old biddies, so am just waiting for the looks on their faces when I can smugly say 'I need that seat, i'm pregnant'. What me, at my age (cue disgusted tutting)....

bytheseaside · 15/12/2012 02:23

Christmas miracle
Baby monkey slept 8- 10 woke him for his expressed bottle. Slept 10:30 -2:00. Bursting boob feed. Then slept 3:00 -6:00
First time he slept that long in big blocks and only one boob feed. Brillant. I did think oh I hope he would still like to sleep on me this morning. And here we lay blanket over me and him. Cup of tea for me watching tv. Happy days
Going for our traditional British home stores breakfast Sunday. We have done it every christmas time pre shopping marathon so excited to take baby monkey to our 22nd year breakfast treat.
Midget. U r a kind soul giving up your chair. O remember when I was pregnant my colleagues let me stand while they sat. I stood for ten minutes in a meeting. When it was my turn as the last to speak I made a point to say thanks for the offer of a seat well they all shot up. Oh to late now shocking manners. Haha.

Goatbongohohoandjinglejingle · 15/12/2012 07:48

seaside I did send a pic so will try again.
Yay for sleep lrm we did well until four o'clock then were AWAKE. awaaaaake, awakeawakeawakeawake, wakey wakey wakey...
Xmas Hmm
bad I took great pleasure on the tube in standing in front of a row of people and saying (in best posh accent) "oh I say, would someone be so kind as to give me a seat? You will? Oh thanks so much, gosh, so kind..." (cue much puffing as I lower myself into seat - actually not so exaggerated!)

Midgetm · 15/12/2012 08:07

Goat- are you sure you are over 40? You don't look it!

LRM very jealous pleased for your marathon sleeping.

Goatbongohohoandjinglejingle · 15/12/2012 08:38

Aw shucks, midget thanks!

Tell you what though, us old duffers sure know how to have cute babies!

Midgetm · 15/12/2012 09:32

To all you lovely ladies who have messages me your mobiles can you send me emails instead as I am cheap and I can email you the pics for free but have to pay for picture messaging. Thank you kindly.

littleredmonkey · 15/12/2012 10:07

Midget. Good point missus. Forgot bloody expensive sending pics. I will sebd e-mail to u all

littleredmonkey · 15/12/2012 10:10

Baby monkey has a tiny bit of cradle cap. I have read u can use Vaseline? Any thoughts. Also tiny dry patch between his eyes. Same treatment or just leave

eagleray · 15/12/2012 10:12

Midget - I will message you my email address as would love to see you all, plus your gorgeous babies!

In return, I'm afraid all I have to offer are a self portrait (taken just now) with unbrushed hair and possibly bits of marmalade down my front. The Baby Jogger can be seen in the background, which makes the pic more interesting. And there is a bump! Also can offer a 4D pic of baby Eagle who is really cute, despite being just a CGI baby of 29 weeks' gestation at the time.

Still feeling shocking - seem to have caught DP's manflu, albeit in a less dramatic form.

littleredmonkey · 15/12/2012 10:27

Eagle. Will send email address to ya. Hope u have you feet up resting. No trips to b&q for u young lady browsing the wood stain aisle another day

BadMissM · 15/12/2012 10:56

goat Hahaha. Will be exploiting it to the max, as revenge for giving up my seat for decades!!!

BadMissM · 15/12/2012 10:57

Eagleray You could always do the rest of you? Amazingly fashionable look in these parts, though don't subscribe myself!

bytheseaside · 15/12/2012 11:20

good point midget will pm you when back on computer. eagleray sounds like fair photo swap! will pm.
can i just say baby goat and baby monkey are very sweet indeed - ah!
lrm i read coconut oil good for treating and preventing cradle cap, gently massaged in. not tried it myself, have no idea if it works. think coconut oil is quite gentle so prob fine for babies? also smells lovely

littleredmonkey · 15/12/2012 11:32

Thanks for tip bythesea. Will pop to Tesco and get some

blueblackdye · 15/12/2012 11:33

Good morning all, I will send over my email address. And will have to create a special folder for MN friends and their beautifully cute babies ! And bump for Eagle
Midget is right, I think Goat pretends to be 40 but she is not. just like Midget.
LRM, I was given Diprobase for DS to treat cradle cap, it did not work really, so I am using olive oil for Anastasia, hence she smells French salad dressing, yum yum ! I think any fat can be used. I leave the olive oil on for at least 30 minutes and wash her hair after.

eagleray · 15/12/2012 13:45

Ok on sofa now - was on a bit of a mission earlier as had to pick up a couple of armchairs I bought off Ebay plus went to Mothercare to get a bra and various other gruesome birth-related things.

Have sent pics to BBD and LRM - please feel free to distribute to whoever and I will look forward to getting some back!

Talking of products for babies, is there anything I should put on my shopping list for the early days? So far, I have nappies and some wipes (although have read that new babies shouldn't really have anything but water).

For myself, I have lansinoh, maternity pads, breast pads (disposable and reusable) and will get some witch hazel or tea tree to squirt on undercarriage (mine rather than the baby's!).

Have I missed anything?

Am loving the the thought of coconut baby and french salad baby!

bytheseaside · 15/12/2012 14:00

eagleray (part of me still sometimes wants to write eagerly - am i the only one? tehe!) i would add in dried apricots, prune juice (to be taken in.moderation) and lactulose to make very sure you don't get constipated. lots if people get disposable pants, but i didn't wear mine - they are dreadful! get lots more maternity pads than you think it will be a faff to get more and your dh may get wrong ones ... hospital ones are horrid. what else? i like this game!

bytheseaside · 15/12/2012 14:01

sensible phone corrected me, obviously i meant eagerlay!

littleredmonkey · 15/12/2012 14:02

Eagleray. Big pants for comfort after so much better for pads. Badedas for lovely witch hazel bath.
Baby. Cotton wool pads or balls for top and tailing.

littleredmonkey · 15/12/2012 14:05

Also chocolate biscuits cake ice cream. In fact treats to make you feel good. Drink loads of water while breastfeeding. X
