Swimming with 5 week old?

Hello,

I wanted some advice about taking my baby swimming. She is currently 5 weeks old and I have checked on the NHS website which advices this is fine but temp needs to be about 32 degrees.
The problem is my friend has a large pool rented that is only kept at 30 degrees. Do you think that is too cold?

I don't know but you could only take her in for a short while anyway as they get cold quickly. Maybe 10-15 mins. I'd def get a wetsuit for her and make sure you have a hooded towel or even a little hat as soon as you get out.

I can see the appeal of a friends pool esp as for a quick dip.
However,I know you can take them this early, but I chose to wait till jabs completed anyway (12 weeks IIRC). Think the only risk is tiny chance of contracting polio but it put me off.

By 12 weeks she should be a bit hardier!

Im sure she would be fine, but being tiny, she will be cold so quickly (even at 32 deg) that IMO its not really worth the faff of getting both of you changed, wet, dried and dressed again. Having said that, it will be much easier and comfortable at a friend's house than a public pool, so give it a go, just have snuggly warm towel, dressing gown for you and a feed on standby though

Get a snug or a wetsuit and she will be fine. eBay or borrow there are loads around. 30 deg is ok ime just don't stay in too long and get out before she cries. Our were all in at around 6 weeks in the hydro pools. Irrc swimming doesn't relate to jabs you just have to not let them get too cold

She should be fine, if she doesn't roar the second you get her in there. I took my DS swimming at that age (live in a hot country) but he just wasn't having it unless the water was super hot.
He's a year now and roars when we take him out of the pool.
