Am I too strict on curfew?

My DS is 13 (just).. he has started to go out to see his friends more recently - which I obviously don't have a problem with. He goes out straight from school and I say come home by 6 for your dinner. By then it's started to get dark. My DS is happy to have his dinner then go to his room and watch TV etc, do homework, but the children are still knocking for him at 8! to come and hang out in the village. I'm saying no - Its too dark and too late. Am i so out of touch that this is what they do? I wouldn't mind so much in the summer when the evenings were light etc, or even in the school holidays but I still wouldn't want him out when its dark. Ok - am I out of touch?

I've never liked this "just hanging out" stuff - especially in the winter/dark nights- so I don't think you have it wrong, especially on a school night.

My teens aren't allowed to just hang out on the streets even in the summer.
