don't know about changes to GTP, I did it last year and it was fab
basically you pay to do a PGCE, based in Uni with placements in schools - GTP they pay you to work as unqualified teacher in a school and you attend Uni on an occasional basis in my case one day a week
being employed and paid while you train has to be a winner

If you ever intend to teach out of the uk, check which countries recognize GTP. When I looked at it a couple of years ago, it wasn't recognized as a teaching qualification in a number of the countries I was likely to live in. They only mentioned this as an afterthought (during a brag about the countries it was recognized in. When questioned closer, they said noooooooooo. I was disappointed. It seemed pretty spot on up until that point, and I had a school lined up. Had wasted a lot of time getting it all sorted and hadn't realized that it would be cock all use to me personally.)

If you intend on staying in the uk, it's fine.

I am watching this with much interest as I'd like to teach, but am trying to find the right route in for me. Do you need to find a school yourself for GTP or are you allocated one?

it depends on the training provider afaik, but even training providers that help you find schools encourage you to first make your own links by volunteering in schools, as they say schools are more likely to take on people they know.

so i need to look in to the future and see if i will move.

So what countries accept/dont accept GTP?

Not Canada, where I was heading! Grin

It may have changed now though, but definitely worth checking...
