ds' 7th birthday party

My ds is having a his seventh birthday party in a few weeks. We asked him who he would like to invite and he has stated he only wants girls and has given us a list of 12 names. The problem is when I asked him to invite some children that he has been invited to over the past year, he refused, saying he only wants girls and it's his party so he can have who he likes. I do sort of agree that he should have who he wants at his birthday party, but also feel it would be kind to return an invite to some of the people that have invited ds to their birthdays. WWYD?

I would decide how many you want to invite, say 12, and tell him he can invite 6. You then have 6 spaces to invite the ones you feel you should. That way he gets to choose some and you can make sure the previous invites are reciprocated. He may find himself out in the cold by only inviting girls otherwise, IME girls tend to invite mainly other girls when its their turn.

Let him have who he wants - you can't invite everyone just because they invited him and if he only wants girls i'd let him.
