DD has expressed an interest in some inline skates for her 8th birthday but I am a tad worried about getting them for her - she is v. accident prone! I am thinking of a maxi micro scooter instead as her old, fairly cheap, scooter is a bit beaten up now. Which would you go for?

Skates - I got my brother (8 years old) some just before Christmas, and he hasn't taken them off since! They were £15 in the sale, at Toys R Us. They have lights in the wheels, which light up as you skate along, and they're unisex. Whilst they may have discontinued those particular ones it's worth having a look in there.

I'd get her the skates, as they're what she's expressed an interest in and they're not too expensive.

You say you're a bit worried as she's accident prone, and it reminded me of something......

I have a disabilty and falling over has always been a daily occurence for me, without adding skates to the mix! When I was about 4 somebody bought me some little kiddie skates, which I could just about stand up in - I remember thinking they were really cool -it's only looking back I think "What a bizarre gift to buy a kid who struggled to walk / stand!!! Let her have skates Smile.

What about these

My dd had some for her eigth birthday and she loves them. Now on her second pair and only one broken wrist to date. There are lots of versions around, you can get some really cheap ones to try them out if you didn't want to spend a lot of money.
