what time does your 12 year old go to bed on a school night

we are in disagreement

Mine goes to his room at about 9, and it's lights off at 10. He gets up at 6, no problem. Weekends he goes to bed when he's tired and lights off by midnight. He's up by 8.

Mine goes up to her room about 8.30.
She'll then be on her ipod touch until about 9.30 - 10.00
She's up at 7 to go school.
Weekends tend to be the same but she'll sleep in the morning anything up to 9.30am.
The recent holidays she's being up about 9pm and going to sleep about 10.30 - 11pm and waking up anything up to 10am.
The later lie ins tend to be a rarity though.

DD goes up to her room about 9. Lights out at 10 on school nights and dragged out of bed about 7am. She's never been a morning person

Weekends and holidays we are a lot more laid back about bedtimes but she's still usually asleep by 11ish.

Unless there's something specific on that we watch as a family (like Great British Bake Off today then he goes to his room (with his brother) around 8ish. Lights off around 10 unless they can make a really good argument for later. At weekends and during holidays it's far more flexible but tbh we only have a small flat so by 8, as much as I love them, I need space and a child free living room!

he asking for 9.30pm. thought that was a bit late but maybe not reading your messages.

My 11yo currently goes up at 8.45 then officially it's lights out at 9.15 but in reality it is usually 9.30-10.
Starting secondary school tomorrow and will get the shock of his life getting up at 6.30 when he's used to 8am!! He did want a later bed time but I don't think he'll cope with it for the first month or two of school and a long walk to/from each day.

At 12 my older DCs went to bed at 9 with light out at 9.30, they were up around 7am.

My 13 yr old yr 9 goes up at 9.30.

Normally goes to sleep quite quickly...nothing electrical allowed in his room.

Almost 12yo ds is in his room for 9 and lights off at 10.

Up for school at 7 with no problems.

It depends on how much sleep is needed by the individual.

My girls are 12 in march, they started secondary school yest. They go up to bed at 8.30, lights out 9.00. Up at 6.30 and it's hard to wake them.

Ds (12 next Monday) goes upstairs between 9 and 9.30 (usually closer to 9.30 ) and lights out at 10 (although we don't always check).

He was allowed up later on Wednesday (till 10) to watch NCIS - and also because we only get in from rugby training at about 9 and we still need to have some supper. He's wanting to see what Dallas is like!

He's up at 7 without any problems - but he's always been a good sleeper.

Shoved into room by 9pm, hollered at if lights still on after 10pm. Except Scouts night when he doesn't get home until 9:30pm.

My 13 year old goes up at 9pm (to read if he wants - he's not allowed any screen based amusements then) and it's lights out at 10pm if he hasn't already. Up at 8am.

DD just turned 13 goes up at 9 and is usually asleep by 10 unless she has homework she hasn't done that is due in the next day in which case she will reappear unexpectedly downstairs at midnight looking for pritt stick.

DD was 12 in May she goes up at 9, though she tries to drag it out, she reads or messes about on her Ipod until about 9.30 sometimes 10.
She gets up between 6 and 6.30, I never have to wake her.

She would go to bed later and did in the holidays but with two under two as well as her and DS1 DH and I need an hour alone time before we shuffle off to bed at 10.

She says EVERYONE else is allowed to stay up forever and watch whatever they want and can text all night and NO-ONE elses mum switches the modem off at 9.30.

DS2 (15) Since he was at Sec. school he goes to sleep at 10pm. He's usually in his bedroom from 6pm doing his own thing!
Gets up at 6.45am (school days).

weekends he goes to sleep 11-12pm up before lunch (just!)

DD(10.7) Goes to bed 9pm and up 6.45am (school days)

At Weekends DD goes to bed 9pm and up 8am.

They are both grumpy heads if they don't get 8 plus hours sleep! (like DH )

Should have mentioned: ds reads until 10 and has a radio he puts on "sleep" mode. He does an Xbox in his room but knows that's not for just before bed.

DS (13 years and 3 days) goes up at 9 p.m. on school nights, officially lights out at 9:30 (but we forget to check).
He's always first up in the morning, by 6:30 a.m. (don't know how we two owls managed to breed a lark ??) . Gets up by 7:30 even at weekends/school hols, staying up late never adjusts his waking time, so I insist on 10:00 p.m. even on non school nights, otherwise he just gets grumpy - and anyway DH and I want some time to ourselves.

Another home here where no TV, computer or electronic gadgets allowed in bedroom.

Ds is 11 and it's 8.30 and light out at 9pm. HAs to be out of the house by 8am to walk to school. Later at the weekends and holidays.

Mine goes when he wants. I find it easier that way. It is not a battle and he generally asleep by 10 to 10.30, but if I laid down the law he would be awake til midnight every night arguing.

Just after 10.30 pm after News at 10 and the local news.

DD2(12) and DS(13) both go up to bed at around 10pm.

At some point DD1 (17, princess of darkness) might go into their rooms and demand that lights/music are switched off.

I wonder if the difference is that we have a 3 storey house with DCs on the top floor and an extra sitting room on the first floor. Means that DH & I watch what we want and DCs watch what they want so there isnt pressure to push them up to bed to get grownup time.

None of them have any problem with getting up in the morning.

School nights - my 12 year old goes up between 8.30-9pm and lights off usually half an hour later. Holidays are more relaxed. Unfortunately, he needs his sleep so lights off later then 9-9.30pm would be a disaster for him. However, his brother (two years later) has always needed alot less sleep, and is often awake far later than his older brother.

lights off 10ish up at 6:30 for 12 and 13 year old.
