does your child cry when you drop them off with the CM?

Just looking for some reassurance, my DS is nearly a year and has been going to the CM 3 days per week for about a month. We had a long settling in period which was fine and he didn't cry then and I thought everything was going to be great.

As soon as I started work he started crying when I dropped him off. CM has just had 2 weeks off and today was DS first day back and he started crying straight away.

I feel awful - is it just a phase? Is it normal do other babies cry? I know its early days with the CM and he has just got to get used to it but a bit of reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

It's pretty normal - does the CM say how long he cries after the door's shut? If you want reassurance stay outside the door for a few minutes to hear whether he settles quickly.

Think Zule has given a good suggestion. There is a big difference between crying because you want to be with Mummy and crying because you are unhappy all day.

Give it a week or so and see if he still cries. I changed CM when my DS was 3 - much-loved original CM moved away. DS cried every morning and it got worse, to the pont where he cried as soon as I put him in the car. As soon as he was old enough to start at day nursery, the crying stopped and he loved every day there. I felt terrible, thought it was just separation issues and that he'd grow out of it, but he really hated it.

I found out later that this CM was also taking in ironing and just used to plonk them in front of the tv.

Listen to your gut instinct, it's usually right. Good luck!
