Gaps between banisters look a bit wide. And stairgate query.

I have a new house. (I will be starting lots of threads, I think.)

The gaps between the banisters look to be a bit on the wide side. I think I'd like to "weave" something down them to block them off from my toddler. What would be a good thing to use?

Stairgates - what do you go for where the banister is not offering any reasonable sized area of solid resistance? Any pictures I see from manufacturers show them fitted to doors, not stairs!

We cable tied a thin sheet of wood behind ours.

We have the modern sort that run parallel to the hand rail.

DD1 stood on her ride on ladybird with her head through them trying to climb round the stair gate!

If you do get a head-through-banisters incident, just flip child upside down so they're coming out forwards (exactly as they went in). Otherwise the ears get them stuck.
