Until this weekend my DS who is 3.4 has drunk all his milk out of an anyway up cup, even though he drinks all his other drinks out of a conventional beker with no lid, he's always insisted on this cup for his milk. I never really cared that much - after all, it's just a cup, and milk is good for him, and as he only had milk with breakfast and before bed, it wasn't as if he spent his life with it in his mouth. Anyway, the spouts on the lids have become severely chewed and manky and i decided that they had to go. As he's 3.4 now I really didn't think I should go out and buy new ones, so we told DS that the cup fairy was coming to get his milk cups, allowed him to choose nice new bekers with diggers etc on to drink his milk out of in future, and on Saturday night, the cups were removed. And as of then, DS has refused to drink any milk. I've given him whatever cups he's wanted out of the cupboard (we have a variety), I bought him coloured straws to drink through, but he's having none of it. He doesn't cause a scene, just says that he doesn't want milk and seems quite happy with that. I do want him to drink milk as feel it's good for him, also he doesn't eat much meat so the protine is good for him also, have resorted in the short term to allowing him to drink milkshake, and tomorrow am going to go out and buy a smoothy maker so we can make fruit shakes together, he seems really excited about helping me to do this.
Then this afternoon my mother came round ...
DS mentioned that the cup fairy had been, and she asked me about it to which I replied that we'd taken away the cups and that as a result, DS didn't want to drink milk. And she said "oh for god sake, why do you have to take the bloody cups away! just give them back to him!". I explained that he wasn't a baby any more and that I really wasn't going to go out and buy cups when he's perfectly capable of drinking any other liquid than milk out of big boy cups. She huffed and puffed and muttered and then left.
so, am I really that bad?
