Another question (probably silly, sorry) about cloth nappies and clothes

All of shops are full of pretty summer dresses for babies, complete with matching knickers. But I know that the knickers wont fit over a cloth nappy and wrap.

What do you do - do you just get a wrap with a pattern on and not bother with the knickers thing?

What are the most practical type of outfits for baby girls to wear in spring and summer anyway? Sorry really silly question, but first timer and dont want to spend alot of money on clothes she will only wear for a few months and might be impractical - eg dresses which ride up all the time etc.

How old is your dd ? I found dresses really impractical until mine could walk. In summer I used all in one short thingies, and I never had a problem with her cloth nappies.

tarantula · 14/03/2006 16:52

I got some nice Motherease wraps with patterns on and a few really nice fleece ones and dressed dd in short dresses, little tops or even just nice t-shirts so everyone could see her fab nappy covers. Had loads of comments on how lovely they were. thats when it was very hot tho. I never bothered withte matching knickers as the nappy covers were sooooo much nicer.

fredly dd is 5 months. I've seen those all in one shorties, and they look good. I reckon I'll need next size up as she never fits into normal trousers or dungarees of the correct size.

tarantula - what about when it wasnt really hot, just normal spring weather?

I have a 3mth old and in the summer am planning to use dresses and prettier wraps[you can get some lovely ones from WAHM sites] or as tarantula said tshirts with just cloth nappies on.
I bought a gorgeous frilly nappy wrap that looks like those ones you get with outfits from ebay for £2.49 and its brand new.

gingernutlover · 15/03/2006 10:03

can anyone recommend a website which does really pretty/unusual wraps - am getting bored with the same old ones and would like to try something different

bumbleweed · 15/03/2006 10:18

I still dont know what clothes to buy for the spring - she is still wearing a s/s body suit underneath a l/s top or a l/s body suit underneath a dress or dungas.

Maybe just switch to s/s body suits with a cardigan?

gingernut not sure about wraps as I only have the white ones so far - didnt see the point of patterns when they were under clothes - now I want patterns for the summer too!!

Hi
this is a link to all the WAHM sites I know of.I have bought from dippy delights and they are very cute and well put together nappies. She also does fleece bibs with a waterproof back lining, great for very sicky babies..lol

Nemo1977 · 15/03/2006 11:26

i meant wraps..doh. some of the sites only do nappies. I have found a lot of them are actually quite cheap too.

gingernutlover · 15/03/2006 13:45

have just ordered thre scxooby ine from dippy delights - under a fiver for a large cross over tab wrap with the postage - could not resist it, if its okay on dd will prob buy others!

nemo, do you think thisa will fit undert a meos?

BonyM · 15/03/2006 13:49

My dd2 has several dresses with matching knickers and they all fit over her cloth nappies and wraps. Mothercare, Gap etc. Use a combination of Bamboozles, Kissaluvs and Happy Heinys.

The Happy Heinys (pocket nappies) come in fantastic prints and I am thinking these are going to be great come summer.

vkone · 15/03/2006 14:58

Definitely go for romper suits (eg \link{http://www.greenbabyco.com/acatalog/terry%20romper%20detail.jpg\these }). They are perfect for day and night time - Tescos usually do some cheaply and they are usually lot bigger in the bum than babygros or bodysuits. When it gets hotter DS wears a tshirt and a colourful pocket nappy. If it's really hot then I leave the wrap off as the wee evaporates and it's cooler for their bottoms.

Nemo1977 · 15/03/2006 15:11

gingernut I use the wraps over meos and totsbots. Do you mean will it fit under a me wrap?

gingernutlover · 15/03/2006 16:43

doh - meant over of course Blush

but good to know they will fit, can't believe I didn't check before ordering, really looking forward to putting scooby doo on dd's bottom too!

bumbleweed · 15/03/2006 17:58

gingernutlover - will you let me know how you find the dippy wraps? I am nervous about buying any wraps other than ME because I had tots ones before and they were useless - wee leaked onto clothes.

BonyM good to know that the knickers will fit over some cloth bottoms. I'm currently using tots originals so they are bulkier than most - but hoping to switch to bamboozles, have bought one to test out tomorrow to see if slimmer.

vkone, thanks for your advice - I have bought one of those, but I will look for some more in tescos.

bumbleweed I like the wraps. Totsbots fleece wraps leaked for me but debbie puts a waterproof lining in the wraps so they are really well done.

bumbleweed · 15/03/2006 18:04

thanks nemo I will check out the site on your link later Smile

have just recieved the scooby wrap - it is incredibly cute and can't wait to get it on her, looks very well made and very adjustable too. i am hoping it will mean she doesn't get the nasty red rings around her thighs that one of my wraps leaves

cat71 · 24/03/2006 14:56

Can anyone advise on which are the best Motherease wraps to use with onesize nappy? Have been using Airflow so far and these are fine except when dd is between popper sizes (one popper setting is too tight, but next slightly too loose around legs) but need to get next size soon and am not sure whether to get the same or the Rikki wraps?

vkone · 24/03/2006 16:55

I use both and find either good over a onesize, I've had weeks when DS has one popper of his airflow on the biggest setting and the other on the medium but then he's gone back to middle setting on both (guess he was just having a fat day). But DS has slim waist chubby legs and I sometimes find the rikki wraps too tight at the legs whilst getting them tight enough at the waist.
