my DS is turning into a total stoner. He's forbidden from smoking in or around the house but he's always stoned. I never give him any money . He does have a part time job . He's looking more and more ill as the summer goes on and he's less and less motivated to do anything but hang out with his mates and presumably get stoned ... I have talked with him so much about it. I am starting to feel very angry and pissed off at his total lack of self care. Do I hope its a phase he will grow out of ?

I feel like a hypocrite because I was quite a toker when I was young ... at first when he started I thought itwas all a normal part of growing up and whilst not condoning it ... I felt well informed enough to talk to DS about the negatives without being too OTT .
Unfortunately I get the impression that it has taken over his life .. All of his friends smoke, he says everyone his age does. There was a particularly strong batch around last week and we saw noone for days. My son lay in the treehouse without moving for 3 days only surfacing for bowls of cereal !when I talked to him, he's very open with me, he said all the kids in the area were stuck at home too monged out to move. He said it was like It like a plague .

it is such a worry expectmiracles, as you say so many of them smoke now, it's kind of mainstream, so we are going to see more casualties, especially with this really strong stuff that you mention. At least he is open with you, and you have some knowledge of what you are up against, which is a big plus. My son tells me alot too (too much sometimes!)
maryz made a good point, that the ones who are doing it to cope with life are the biggest worry.
