Which sort of thread should I get for sewing in name labels into DC school uniform?

I've just been looking at threads and it's a bit confusing as there are so many different options.

So, would someone please point me int the right direction, please?

Should I get cotton or polyester? And what sort of thread should I go for. The ones I have seen have lots of different numbers on them? The uniform colours are dark green and white so would I need both of these colours or is white ok?

I should have just asked someone in the shop but they were busy with someone for ages and I was late for an appt. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm confused Confused

Many Thanks in advance.

I would buy...some white and some green, nearest to the uniform colour. Buy a good quality, not Pound Shop as it will fray. I would also buy a Sharpie pen and write directly on anything which has a label in it.

This is why I use iron on labels!

I'd try to match it to the pullover if it would be seen. But despite offspring of 20, 19 and 15 I have never sewn in labels, only used a sharpie and the occasional iron on /laundry pen set.

Hello.

I did try iron on labels for DD at nursery and they all fell off in the wash so by the time she'd been there 2 months they'd all gone. So I thought I'd try the sew on ones this time. Hmm

I do have white and black thread but the white thread is quite thick but I'll give it a try.

Do Sharpie pens eventually fade away? I'm hoping to resell the uniform once my DD grows out of it. I've gone for bigger sizes so hoping she'll get a couple of years at least out of them first though.

Thanks again for all your replies and help.

The ordinary stuff you can get from the supermarket is fine. A black thread should not show up too much on dark green. I wouldn't stress about it - theres no particular magic to threads for this sort of job.

Black would be ok if you don't sew in a really obvious place. You can sharpie on the labels, then cut the labels out. Although any two year old uniforms we have would not be sell-able.

Same colour as the jumper-skirt-shirt, or something that doesn't contrast, that's all that matters!!
