It's not necessarily a bad thing that she hasn't pooed in 24 hours. Depends on how old she is, how she's fed, and how often she normally goes. Whether you can/should treat it and how also depends on how old she is.

wouldn't worry about it .. digestive patterns change ...

peaches27 · 12/03/2006 18:36

We are going through this at the moment.

Suggestions are:
boiled water and half tsp brown sugar
teaspoon orange juice with 2 oz boiled water
as above but apple juice

change of formula ? which

Warm wrapped hot water bottle on tummy, baby laying across knee on tummy.

Bicycling her legs ?

I have just tried the water and juice which she wouldnt drink. Tried the brown sugar too. Still farting ... no poo!

lactulose?

I was told not to give apple juice for constipation...

tallmummy · 12/03/2006 19:49

All 4 DSs had constipation in the first 2-3months. DS3 didn't go for 7 days!! Lots of really smelly farts. Health visiter said it wasn't uncommon with breastfed babies but gave him lactulose. When he finally went it was amazing. I was changing him at the time it was like toothpaste from a tube sorry if tmi!!
Gentle baby massage on the tummy sometimes works. Use a gentle massage oil (not almond NUTS) and place the heel of your hand gently below babies belly button. Fan out your fingers and gently stroke babes tummy from left to right by rotating your wrist (tricky to explain!). Might get things moving.

I wouldn't have thought you had anything to worry about TBH.

tallmummy · 13/03/2006 21:47

Has that baby pooped yet?

mandymac · 13/03/2006 21:52

Breastfed dd went through a stage of only going about once every 5 days or so. I found leaving her nappy off for a while on her changing mat helped and bicyling her legs. She was also very windy for a while, but it did settle down.
