What do you do while your child is in the bath?

I don't mean little ones who can't amuse themselves. My daughter is 4 and I feel I still need to supervise, so I wash her and her hair etc, then tend to catch up on texts etc.

Today I'm wiping the bathroom over. She's happy playing with her jugs and a few toys while chattering non-stop!

Read a book.

Rubirosa · 20/07/2012 18:13

Internet and drink a glass of wine in relative peace.

Scarredbutnotbroken · 20/07/2012 20:34

Mn! Catch up on fb etc. I only clean the bathroom when dd is in there - best use of time and she helps!

Bath time is worth maintaining as chat time- once they get older it's usually a time when they will tell you things. So tedious as it is, 20 minutes spent playing with boats when they are 4 will pay dividends in terms of confidences when they are 8.

2kidsintow · 20/07/2012 20:39

Play a game with my DD. She likes lying down in the water and having me swish her up and down the bath so she makes waves.

She also likes to make me a 'cappuccino' of the frothy bath water and laughs uproariously when I complain it tastes like bathwater and tip it over her head.

Shakey1500 · 20/07/2012 20:39

Normally chat, sing songs. DS is 4. Occassionally I'll sort some washing in the bedroom while chatting etc.

CoucouCache · 20/07/2012 20:48

Chat, sing, and clean the bathroom

CMOTDibbler · 20/07/2012 20:55

Usually I get in the bath with him. We like to chat and chillax together - ds is 6.

MegBusset · 20/07/2012 21:07

Referee and stop them drowning each other (DSes age 3 and 5). Occasionally MN if I get half a second's peace between squabbles.

bushymcbush · 20/07/2012 21:17

Chat and sing. Flick bubbles at each other. Sometimes I get in the bath with her.

I hadn't thought of cleaning the bathroom - what a great idea! Will be doing that in future.

Tee2072 · 20/07/2012 21:54

He's only 3, so I wash him but we also chat and sing songs and play with the water. And blow bubbles.

hazeyjane · 20/07/2012 21:56

Dd1 and 2 (6 and 5) play mermaids in the bath together, so i usually potter in and out and fold clothes and tidy up.

Ds is 2 and has to be held in the bath, so it is usually over pretty quickly!

rosyposyandc · 20/07/2012 22:00

sit on the floor getting wet while they laugh at me

Chubfuddler · 20/07/2012 22:01

I play with them. Splashing, duck racing, blowing bubbles at each other, it's only ten minutes.

FrankWippery · 20/07/2012 22:03

MN, glass of wine or cup of tea and a cigarette usually. She's 3½ and happy in there for at least half an hour, but usually more like an hour.

scotgirl · 20/07/2012 22:05

Cleanse, put on a face mask and then tint my eyebrows or things along those lines - not every bath night but pretty regularly - is a good use of the time imo!

ZhenThereWereTwo · 20/07/2012 22:11

DD1 is 3

We chat while we draw with bath crayons, play tunes on water flutes together, learn our letter sounds with foam letters (by me asking her to find the letter that sounds like sss for example, once found in bath water she sticks on the wall) and sing silly songs.

DD2 is 5 months so has to be held, she just enjoys kicking, splashing and trying to eat DD1's foam letters for as long as my back will take it.

If DH is doing bath time I MN clean the kitchen :)

NakedButNotFamous · 21/07/2012 10:39

Our bath is in the en-suite so I iron. DS is 4

Some sort of skincare, usually a face scrub then properly moisturise, sometimes take off nail varnish, things that I don't get five minutes to do otherwise. Also clean bathroom if it needs it.

cheeseandmushroomtoastie · 21/07/2012 16:38

Whilst singing/ talking/ splashing ds

trikken · 21/07/2012 16:50

Chat and sing and play. And monitor the splashing.

jubilee10 · 21/07/2012 22:13

I used to clean the bathroom but we only do showers now. Ds is 6.
