Newborn with dark grey eyes - what colour will they change to?

They are so dark they are almost black. No idea where they came from genetically, DH's and mine are both green, DD1's are blue.

Will they lighten or turn brown perhaps? Though I'd be happy if they stayed the same tbh, they are quite lovely as they are!

DS's have turned hazel-y brown (me blue-eyed, DH NE Asian). Do you have any dark brown eyes in the family?

NellyBluth · 14/07/2012 21:59

Just watching with interest - DD was born with usual blue eyes but at 5mo they have turned a very unusual grey/green with tiny hazel flecks, am quite keen for her to keep this colour!

Small child here started with grey and they are now definitely brown (having gone through the grey/green stage, sorry Nelly).

i have a grey eyed 18 mth old.

he was born with very steely blue eyes and they are now grey with little green flecks at the centre. beautiful colour and no idea if they will change further. i think they do/can change up to the age of 2.

Fuzzymuzz · 14/07/2012 22:03

My dd had almost black eyes - they are now the most beautiful brightest blue. Gorgeous Smile

Bugger - I KNEW those hazel flecks would probably herald brown eyes! (Nothing personal against hazel or brown eyes, I have hazel eyes myself, just with dark hair and pale skin, grey-green eyes would be so pretty...)

When my twin boys were born, they both had lovely grey eyes. Now aged almost 5, one has lovely blue eyes and one has lovely brown eyes. FWIW, I think lots of newborns have grey eyes that then change to a whole range of other colours!

My son had bright blue eyes until he was 18 months old, they changed to brown then green and have only just settle at 6 years old to a hazel colour. I used to be amazed that the colour would change monthly even at 4 years old!

onedaysandy · 14/07/2012 22:06

DS had very dark blue/black eyes until around 4 months when they turned (and stayed) very dark brown.

Nuttyprofessor · 14/07/2012 22:08

I had three DCs with grey eyes, one now has blue, one green and one brown Hth

Rosebud05 · 14/07/2012 22:11

DD had dark grey eyes with hazel tints. At 5, they're hazel with a grey/blue rim. Dh and I both hazel but with blue in both families.

MangoHedgehog · 14/07/2012 22:18

sounds like they could go any way then! Dark brown would be lovely, I have always loved eyes that colour

Dd had black eyes when she was born - so black you could barely tell where the pupil was. She now has lovely brown eyes - not as dark, more of a chestnutty colour with a very very very dark limbus line.

Bit of a shock after ds who is blonde haired and blue eyed!

GaryTankCommander · 14/07/2012 22:27

My DS's turned from bluey/grey to very dark brown, same as my DH. Mine are green.

VeremyJyle · 14/07/2012 22:29

My DD had brown eyes practically from birth, now they are a golden hazel, the same colour as her auburn hair, I tell she's the only person in the world to have the same colour eyes and hair stealth boast Grin

03angels · 14/07/2012 22:31

All my dds eyes were dark grey/black there now a lighter steel grey/blue. Theyre all olive skinned with fair hair so there eyes really stand out Grin
