10 week old baby starting to wake every hour...

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice or reassuring words that things will getter better soon. My DS was 10 weeks yesterday. By about 6/7 weeks he was doing really well and maybe sleeping from 8 til 1 or 2am and then maybe another 3 hours till 4am which I could cope with although was tiring.

For the past 3 weeks his sleep had progressively got worse ie he started to wake at 11, then he went to waking every two hours and last night was every hour.

I'm breastfeeding and am really struggling. I've been telling myself that he's having a growth spurt but would it last 3 weeks and get progressively worse like this?

I've tried not picking him up but then he starts to cry and I can't let him cry it out so the only way for me to get him back to sleep is to feed him. Has anyone got any advice as to how I can improve things - all my friends with babies are trying to get their babies to sleep through the night, I'm not expecting that, at the moment I'll be thrilled with a 3 hour stint!!

I have no words of wisdom I'm afraid... I have a similar thread I posted this morning!!! My ds is exactly the same so will be watching this with interest..

My dd was a brilliant sleeper from day 1 and I thought I had it all sorted... How wrong I was!! Ds is a different story!!

Hoping someone can help us both x

My DS went through a similar pattern. He had a 4 week routine. A week of waking every hour or so, a couple of weeks waking 2 or 3 times in the night and a week of sleeping through. It does get better gradually. At 13 months he sleeps through most of the time now, but likes to get up at 5:30am.

Just get through the next week or so and you should be back to your usual pattern.

When your DS wakes does he feed for long or does he just want to fall asleep when you latch him?

Does he cluster feed at any other point during the day?

My DD2, whose 12 weeks does this between 5 and 11pm but does occasionally do this at night too.

It depends, he can feed for about 15 mins and fall asleep but I've been waking him up and changing etc to make sure he's getting a full feed etc so we can be awake for a good hour with me feeding him, winding etc before he then wakes an hour later!

He feeds most in the evening and can feed for 2/3 hours before going down at 8/9 o'clock. He only goes to sleep by falling asleep in my arms and then me transferring him to his Moses basket so guess he's not learnt to self settle which won't help matters I guess...

Good God, you must be shattered.

You're doing all the right things, sometimes babies just have their own agenda.

It might be worse because he can't settle himself, but I understand why you let him fall asleep with you first, I was doing the same thing until a few weeks ago.

I encouraged DD2 to settle herself in the day first, I didn't dare start at night until she'd mastered it in the day.

Have you had him weighed recently? It always makes me feel better to know that my DD2 is putting on weight when I'm finding feeding hard.

I've been getting him weighed weekly as he lost a lot of weight when he was a couple of days old and struggled to put weight on the first few weeks. For the last month he's been putting on 7-9oz a week so know that he doing ok in that respect finally - it's the sleeping thing I need to work on now!

Thanks for all your help and kind words I really do appreciate them xx

My baby was exactly the same...up until 10 weeks or do she slept 9pm-5am then around 10 weeks started waking every 45mins to 2 hours. This continued until she was 6.5 months when we did sleep training. She now sleeps 12 hours straight.
