Is lifting a baby/toddler from the back seat of a 3 door car bad for your back?

First baby due and worrying about whether I am going to do my back in lifting it in and out of the back seat of our 3 door car- cant exactly afford a replacement 5 door, but worried as have heard that they get really heavy really quickly, and already have bad back.

Would really appreciate hearing opinions from parents.

I have a 3 door and I found it easier to get DD in and out of a car seat in the 3 door than a 5 door. i am only 5 foot tall and I found the stretching round from the side on DH's 5 door quite a pain. However, with my 3 door I just stood in the footwell, facing DD straight on - so much easier on my back.

Good point- hadn't thought that stretching round on a 5 door might be hard too.

Although am closer to 6 ft, so not sure standing in footwell such an option- will just have to duck Smile

Thanks

I think my friends manage it easily with their twins by pushing the front seats forward and getting right into the car so they are facing the rear

if you already have back problems and can't get right in the car then I would say yes... it could be difficult. they do get heavy VERY quickly (darn things! lol)

I find it much easier getting ds out of our 5 door than my parents 3 door tbh

I find being a parent is generally very bad for your back all round.

i dont find it a problem... im always lifting my 3 year old chatge in and out of her car seat.

TBH i REALLY dont find 3 doors a problem... except when i have 3 kids so 3 kids seat.... one of which is in the front and i have to take it out while i strap in in the back then reinstall it again after wards! Thats the only bit that annoys me TBH.

Its true that facing them strapping in seems better than reaching across. I too and only 5ft 2 so quite little!

I am nearly 6 foot too, and I find our 3 door easier than our 5 door. Pushing the front seat forward and getting right into the car means that you are right in front of little one when s/he tries to escape, and you don't have to lean in and twist to get them in/out..

We nearly sold our little 3 door when I was pregnant. So glad that we didn't.

I foud it manageable (after I got over my c-section), geting dd in and out of my beetle buty dh who is 6ft had awful back trouble. Now we've got a 5 door as well, I findthat much more convenient.
