Hi

Have read all the guidelines and they are not very helpful. Everyday I think how many layers should I put on my 3 month old. My house is constantly at 22oc at the mo even with windows open. When I go to baby group all the babies are dressed differently, one even had a long sleeve fleece dress in July!!!!

Any help? Ps my baby doesn't wear sleep suits as legs too long lol

One layer more than you. That means if your house is warm as you say won't be wearing that much (dd2 is 6 months and is in short all in ones with no socks round the house).

Going out depends on if use sling or pushchair. If dd2 in her fleece nest in buggy she doesn't have more than socks and maybe a light cardigan on if it's not hot. If in a sling I put her in trousers .

But I think common sense comes into it as if indoors or car or bundled into a buggy with cosy toes you need to de layer.

have you tried gro bags at night? They are much longer and always seem to keep them warm - you can have short sleeved or long sleeved vest underneath accordingly.

For going out I always had vest (again short or long sleeve accordingy) and then a top and trousers or all in one thing - then you can add or remove socks, cardi, hoodie, etc as needed.

I do feel for you this year, mine are all older now so are going out in shorts, t shirt and hoodie regardless with a raincoat over if needed.

Finally - if this is your first baby - don't worry too much about the guidelines - it is important they dont overheat or get too cold of course but I think it is actually hard to do this to the extreme and they soon let you know if they're not cosy.

What i do in this weather is just layer, usually in the morning start of with a t-shirt vest and cardigan sometimes no vest, then as the day goes on just take the cardy on and off when I feel cool or warm. At baby/toddler groups there can be children in shorts and tshirts and children in jeans and a jumper you will get to know what lo needs. My dd is always warmer than me as she takes after her dad if he is around I have to get him to feel if she is warm or cold as I always think she is hot as I have cold hand feel the cool.

Oh and this is the thing that I find most difficult/confusing about being a parent so far. It can take me all day sometimes to decide what I am going to put dd in for bed. She is 17months nearly!
