Does anyone send their DCs to nursery for afternoons only?

Just pondering on options for when dc2 is born in October, dd will be 21mo. She currently goes to nursery 4 days per week, and I'd like her to carry on, but probably reduce it to 2/3 days. I was just looking at the groups and stuff that we might want to do and thinking that it might be good to try and do a group/activity in the morning, come home for lunch and DD's nap (please god let her keep napping) and then send her to nursery in the afternoon.

Does anyone have any views/experience on whether this is likely to work?

Thanks all.

I suppose it depends what time your dd naps? All the afternoon sessions where I am start at 1pm and that's the exact time that my ds goes down for his nap.

I had 2 ds's 17months apart. Ds1 still napped in the afternoons so he went to nursery in the mornings, had lunch there then after I'd picked him up we would come home and he'd go straight down for a nap. Then put baby down for a nap then nap myself.

I think afternoons would be better for a non napping child especially of you have a newborn and need some rest yourself. Have lunch, take oldest to nursery, come home and have a sleep yourself with baby.

When my DS went to pre-school aged 3, the hours were 1-3.30pm - slightly unusual because the building is used for something else in the mornings. That was fine because he had dropped his nap, so he and DD and I would go to activities in the morning, have lunch, take him to nursery and then I would have a break while DD napped. So I think it would work well when your DD drops her nap. But if she is still napping then I agree with Minerva that it would be tricky to fit in an activity AND a nap before the afternoon session? Unless she just has a quick 45min nap?

My dd goes to nursery from 12 til 5.30 twice a week. It works really well for us as DH works from home, he gets her up and feeds her etc, he takes her and the dog for a walk and then she comes home and has a nap for an hour and a half and goes to nursery for 12 where she has her lunch.

She is 14 months.
