Rainy days with a 2 year old - Help

Just saw the weather report and its at least 5 more days of rain here (live in the middle of nowhere). We've baked savoury muffins, read, sticker books, colouring a plenty, been through the button box a million times....lots of Peppa Pig....I'm pregnant tired and running out of ideas. Please can you share what you do and any ideas to keep sane. I also have limited access to a car at the moment which is a pain, so ideally we're talking things to do at home.....

Help :)

Make a den with blankets draped over chairs? Let toddler 'furnish' it with cushions, rugs tec, and eat (non-sticky!) snacks in there. And give them a torch to play with in there.

Mine are currently watching Disney videos Smile.

Soft play? Trip to local supermarket with promise of cake in the cafe? Train ride to local cafe? Activities at local sure start centre? Visit friends and relatives in car?

Don't you have a television...?

:)

Hide & seek
Cutting (you do) & sticking (they do)
Play cafes
Give them a brush and a pot of water and tell them to clean the bath or a worktop - still keeps my DS (now 3.5) quiet for ages
And then telly.

CurlsRUs · 06/07/2012 13:42

Jump in puddles. Make mud pies. Look for snails. Anything that involves being outside, because I go crazy stuck in the house. DS is forced to put on his big sister's waterproof trousers and we hang out in a soggy park, but he doesn't seem to mind. I don't care how muddy we get as long as I'm getting fresh air!

We often rummage in the recycling box and make rubbish robots. Or make our own play-dough.

Is there a bus route nearby? Could you hop on a bus and go somewhere - even if it's just to Tescos to wander the aisles and have a drink in the cafe, or visit the library? I have been known to make a library trip last a couple of hours...

Do you know anyone else within walking distance with similar-aged kids? Playing with another child's toys can keep them happy for ages, even if the children don't actually play together, and you can have a cuppa.

I bought him a lunch box online that arrived this morning and filled it with food and snacks which he's carrying round at the moment looking quite chuffed....but its only a matter of time before that all changes and the next distraction needs to come out the bag. Could incorporate the tent, indoor picnic.... :S

Family are 3 hours away, met some people here so will call them for back up

Our latest (rather random!) success is to give her a bowl of jelly and a spoon and let her spoon it out into other c

KD0706 · 06/07/2012 16:22

Sorry. Toddler jumping on me.

Spooning jelly into other containers is what I was trying to say

Water play is always a hit here.
Tea parties
Play dough (do?)
Putting on music and dancing around - you maybe don't have the energy for that?

KD0706 · 06/07/2012 16:28

I've just filled a little toy suitcase she has with different kitchen utensils, spoons, toy food, just random things I thought she would find interesting and she's playing away with those. If I'm lucky I will get fifteen minutes of peace.

She also has a little pot full of stones she's collected out on previous walks and I'm going to crack that out soon.

DH due home early as its Friday. Can't be too soon!!

Oh also I'm thinking of cutting things up with safety scissors if I get desperate eg Argos catalogue...
