Holidays and Swimming Pools

We're taking our almost one year old DTs to France, one is crawling and I think the other one will be by the time we go. We're going to a campsite and planning quite a bit of time by the pool which is freaking me out.

We have swim seats for in the big pool, these won't work in baby pool which is more a huge paddling pool and only maybe 10cms deep. What do other people do (apart from obviosuly watching them like a hawk!) - would you get floatation suits or armbands, just in case? I can't really find small enough floatation suits anyway (prem babies and only way 8kg now). Or am I being completley neurotic and just watching them is enough??

Yes, you're being a little bit neurotic Smile

I'm afraid your days of lying in relaxing, sun drenched bliss by the pool or on the beach are firmly behind you for a few years! There is no substitute for watching them like a hawk, though i don't suppose flotation suits is a bad idea. I suppose what i'm saying is, you will need to watch them like a hawk regardless of whether or not they are wearing armbands and a flotation suit because they don't have the balance and upper body strength at that age to 'right' themselves if they fall forward in the water. I would save yourself a few quid, unless it is going to help you when you're in the water with them.

DH, DS (19mo) and I went to France recently and literally did not stop the whole time we were at the pool together. It's far easier to catch a crawler than a walker/ runner!

As an aside from my very dismissive opening remarks, you may of course get chance to relax for a couple of hours if they sleep well in buggies and are good at daytime napping!

Good luck and enjoy!

Oh, and apart from everything i have said, i am well jel!

silverangel · 04/07/2012 11:36

Thanks Matana, I kind of thought that!

We go to the same place every year and in previous years its been lying by the pool drinking large glasses of wine relaxing, going to be VERY different this time:)

Don't buy flotation suits, if the buoyancy isn't just right they can topple face first into the wster-at least that his been my experience with them. do get through full length sun swim suits tho for sun protection. otherwise, sun cream nightmare times two.

You will be fine , don't worry -i found it worse when they could walk!
