how important is feet to foot?

DS now moves so much in his sleep at 5 months that he ends up all over the place apart from where he's ment to be i've given up the feet to foot and just pop him in the middle in his grobag there is nothing else in his cot apart from his sheet but i mentioned this to my friend and she has terrified the life out of my with warnings about cot death.

I thought the point of feet to foot was so they couldn't go under the blankets but as he doesnt have any it wouldn't be a problem - is there some other reason i'm not aware of? worried silly about going to sleep now!

Exactly what I do and both mine are fine

Feet to foot is to do with blankets, if they're in a grobag there is no risk of getting the blanket/sheets over their face and suffocating. It's also more when they're v tiny and can wriggle a bit, so could wriggle under the covers, but aren't yet moving and rolling so can't get themselves free again.

It's similar with the sleeping on their back bit, when they roll over by themselves you don't have to keep going in every 5 mins and rolling them back over! (Before your friend comments on that!)

Grobags eliminate the need for feet to foot, don't worry :)

Yep, its not relevant once they're in grobags, only when using sheets and blankets

I'm glad I read this, HV told me feet to foot was important even with a grobag, I thought she was wrong, but wondered if maybe there was another reason apart from the sheets!

Nope, no other reason, your DS will be fine.

bar strapping him down he's not going feet to foot anyway but i'll sleep better knowing i'm right :)

Feet to foot is re:blankets.

Grobags are eliminating blankets and therefore feet to foot.

Just do what I do and chuck them into bed any old way.
