Giving Birth consultant led - The Gwent in Newport or Heath, Cardiff??

Hi

I'm having antenatal at the new hospital in Ystrad Mynach (I'm 22+2), but have been told that I'll be consultant led as I'm an older mum, so can't have the baby there, and have to choose between The Gwent and the Heath. I've read some bad reviews about the Heath, but a year or so ago, and would really appreciate views from anyone who has given birth there more recently? This will be my first baby, so I've nothing to compare it with!
Thanks all

I was a year ago so not recent (gave birth in the heath consultant led) It was awful but could be better now. I know people who gave birth in Gwent and they only had good things to say. sorry if this doesn't help

Def the heath. I had the same choice with my ds earlier this yr and visited both. Was really put off newport for lots of reasons and heard some bad stories so opted for the heath. Couldnt have asked for better. Had my own room both before, during and after, no limit to dp visiting hours and the staff were all very supportive. I know i sound like im on their payroll but i really couldnt have asked for more (well apart from the food but it is hospital!)

Sorry havent been able to log on recently. Thank you both, good to hear your views. I'm used to hospital food after numerous knee ops, so my expecations are low!

Gwent were fab with me 2 years ago. I had 4 different consultants caring for me as I had sooooo many problems in my pregnancy. I spent about 3 weeks in/out (but mostly in!) of hospital before DS was born at 33 weeks and the SCBU staff were great too.

The only "bad" experience was with some of the staff on the ward on one shift who left me for what seemed like ages without pain relief (after my c-section) on one occasion. They had put me in a side room as DS was in SCBU rather than on the main ward and I had to keep calling staff who were just very busy. Otherwise they were great.

I gave birth in the heath twice, my sister in the Gwent once, both had good expriences with staff. Most recent was me in the heath 9 weeks ago was fab. Only issue is where they are extending the children's hospital (also amazing ds1 had to be in there for a week) right under the postnatal wards so can be noisy (but for a damn good cause).
