apologies in advance if long.
my LO is 16 weeks and being a handful - waking more at night, not napping well in day, feeding strangely, possibly early teething, clingy and do on. today esp bad after bad night when i was awake with a dead/tingly arm even when ds asleep. house a tip. mother visiting today, can't face the comments on house.

so this morning tried to get some stuff done with DS in bjorn, and think i banged his arm against kettle which i thought was cooled but was actually quite warm. he wailed. i ran under cold water and he calmed down, but then got upset again when put on play mat. gave him baby calpol, tried to rock to sleep, gave teething ring, no joy so have a cool cloth on arm now while feeds.

is now little red patch on his arm and small thing that might be blister, tiny but worrying.

what else should i do with his arm, are there danger signs i should look for with baby burns?

feel awful mother, in tears again for fourth time today :( miss my easy baby from a few weeks back....

Oh he'll be OK. Just keep it clean and dry, maybe cover with a little bandage?

I have bonked my DS's head on the doorframe, almost let one roll off the changing table (caught him by an ankle) beds, etc etc.

Hes probably having a growth spurt, or teething, or some other mysterious phenomenon that we can only guess at, so all you can do is cuddle him and try to help him get through it. And you won't get your old DS back- you'll get a better one who smiles at you and chuckles at funny faces, tries to grasp things! Every stage is better than the last...

All the best

"Hi Mum, I know the house is not perfectly clean and tidy, but DS has been very difficult lately, not sleeping and needing my attention all the time, so I'm very tired, and I would appreciate it if you would not mention it, thanks. Look, DS, here's Grannie, give her a cuddle." Smile

Thanks all, though even your kind words are making me cry...ruddy sleep deprivation! I thought he had dropped off and was about to get into bed, but I hear cries again, better rush off for a cuddle.
Thanks for the mnsupport :)

No fantastic advice to offer here but just wanted to say that you are not an awful mother at all. I bet every mum on here can sympathise with you - it will get better :)

Hi i just wanted to say exactly the same thing happened with my LO at 16 weeks he's not 21 weeks and finally coming out the other side we've had 2 great days with no crying good naps and not bad nighttime sleeping only up twice. You will come out the other side just like me x

blossombath · 27/06/2012 21:32

Thanks so much for kind words everyone Thanks and thanks for encouragement lola, I keep telling myself this too will pass and hoping it will be soon. My DD is 26 weeks tomorrow but from 16-21 weeks she went from lovely easy baby to v hard work. It was my toughest time so far but it did pass. Just take a deep breath and do whatever makes it easiest to get you through the days. DD is still waking through the night whereas prior to 16 weeks she slept through but everything else is much better.
