Child rearing books - any recommendations?

My dd has just turned one and I am thinking of purchasing a child development book. There are loads out there so I wondered if anyone had any good recommendations?

i got bought a really good one called kidwrangling by kaz cooke its all very light hearted but its got some really good stuff what to expect at what age etc from birth to school age shes a mum herself and not a so called child care expert
