Help needed getting (nearly) 4 year old to stay in bed!

She starts school soon and is driving us potty. She goes to bed at about 7/7.30 (same time as the other children) in her own darkened room with a little night light in a big girl bed. She can look at books in bed, but is being a complete nightmare. She takes ages to go to sleep, gets up and comes down to ask for drinks/food. We get fed up with her so she then goes into her sister's room! We used to have a stairgate, but she could open it, so we abandoned that. I think some sort of reward chart might work, but I am knackered and can't think straight!

Can anyone offer any good ideas!?

Tell her straight. She's going to be going to school where she'll be expected to sit still for periods of time, do as she's told and generally cooperate. Forget reward charts, think of some dire consequences for non-compliance and then follow them through. Close the door firmly
