Chicken Pox or Nappy Rash?

Earlier on today about about 2pm (now 7.30pm) dd had about 3 little spots around her mouth, and nothing more. She went to nursery at about 2.30pm. When I picked her up from nursery I noticed she had about 10 spots around her mouth and later when I bathed her I noticed that she has about 60 spots around her bottom. There are a couple of randoms around her body but nowhere else atm.

She hasnt been very well for the last couple of days, she has had a cough and cold symptoms.

They have had chicken pox at nursery.

So, I know I will know at some point tomorrow as if its CP I suspect she will get covered in them quite quickly.

She is 14 months and I think she is teething too, but she has never had a rash like this at all before.

Any ideas?

Yep beware as seona says could be hand foot and mouth. My friends dd was diagnosed by a doctor as having chicken pox but 'got it again' several months later. It turned out the first time was hand foot and mouth and the second time was correctly diagnosed as chicken pox.
Did the nursery have a hunch which it was? They are experts IME of being illness experts

Nursery said nothing at all, I thought nothing of it when I picked her up, she had the spots around her mouth then which werent there when I went to work first thing (dh has her in the morning and takes her to nursery). I presumed it was from her having her dummy a bit more often as she was a bit under the weather (normally only has it at night).

The annoying thing is that if they have suspected chicken pox I cant take her to the doctors.

I might pop and change her bum soon before I go to bed as didnt put any cream on incase it was CP, will put some bepanthem on incase its nappy rash instead. Will investigate then.

I took my ? CP to the doctors, it looked much more like nappy rash and I wanted a second opinion. (GP said ? nappy rash, CP unlikely but wait and see).

Hand, foot and mouth is a good thought. I kept DC2 off with ? CP on the basis it was all in the nappy area after my experience with DC1. 24 hours later and no facial/truncal lesions, it was hand foot and mouth.

Wow, the hunch was right! How is she getting along?

Natzer · 21/06/2012 20:12

Shes much better today thank you Grin, more herself, less grizzly. The earlier spots on her face and bum are really starting to clear up, but they are coming out more on her hands and feet now and I have noticed some in her mouth too now Sad.
