Ba in social work or Ma in soical work

I have currently got a foundation degree in Early Years, and I am doing it with the Open University, under their transitional fees I can top this up to an honours degree for a small cost.
My question is should I draw a line under it now and go to college to do the Ba in Social Work, or get the BA in Early Years then the MA in Social work?

Purple, you may still just get a place on the BA this year if you hurry, depending where you apply to.

I am starting the Msc in September and wouldn't have been able to afford it without the bursary, but at least with the BA there will still be Student Finance.

Sorry to hear that. Well don't give up hope and keep your eyes open for the Step Up to Social Work programme, you need a 2:1in your degree to apply but the bursary is much bigger.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Nota why have you been turned down for the maintenance grant?

If anyone is worried about the debt think about the impact of the qualification on your earning potential. I was a support worker before and could never have earned what I do now and could earn in the future.

The debt payment is taken directly out of your wages and mine is around £50 a month.

I am getting a Step up to SW student in September. Where I work we have just taken on 60. I think there are pros and cons to that route, as it vastly limits your experience but financially its prob a better option although I am not sure of the financial details.

Hi purple, I've recently been to see an adult careers adviser, to get a place for September 2013 I have to apply between September this year and next January. I'm not doing anything at the moment with it been school hols, well actually I am doing a bit if voluntary befriending work for a debt advice charity but I don't think this will be much use for a social work degree, am hoping to get on a course with home start in September and do some voluntary work with them :)
