My best friend is going to be adopting a 5 or close to 6 month old by the time paperwork finalised. This is her first child and she is completely overwhelmed by the whole thing. It has been nearly 2 years and she is so excited but frightened. When I had my first child she bought me 'a best friends guide to pregnancy' I wanted to buy her a book too but not sure which one. I had 'Babies' by Christopher Green and now have the 'Toddler' version. Sold 'Babies' on ebay!! Can anyone recommend a book that maybe deals with adoption/babies. I wasn't sure whether the Christopher Green book with be ok. I havent' got it anymore so can't flick thru and see. Any advice anyone??

My recommendation would be "Letting go as children grow" by Deborah Jackson. I know it sound strange to recommend a book with such a title when her baby is just coming home, but it's a really love book about relaxed parenting. How much were you thinking of spending? How about a sling to keep her baby close to her. Here are some lovely ones slings

this is a website that sells all kinds of things for people who are adopting. it even sells announcement cards, like the kind you send when you have had a baby but are for those who have adopted

That's exciting news! You might think about Adopters on Adoption though it deals with all ages, not just babies.

You might also want to look at Forever Family a UK site that sells adoption day cards, etc. My friend's dd is adopted and every year they celebrate her birthday and her adoption day.

I can't recommend a book, but what about getting her a lovely photo album for special photos of the baby, his life so far and their new life together? They could make it into a really special keepsake of his first few months with his new family.
