What makes a nappy good?

This may sound silly, but I'm overwhelmed by the choice of nappy's in the shops. What makes a nappy good and what kind of things do I need to consider? Help! What is the best nappy to go for? Thanks

Pampers simply dry. Cheap as chips, never leaks or brings up an allergic reaction!

We found all branded ones leak. Would only ever use tesco purple packet ones or asda little angels.

Have you considered cloth nappies?

NewMummyGeorgina · 11/06/2012 10:17

Oh that does surprise me, many mums have told me to stay clear of own branded nappies? What nappies have you tried? Thanks for the help :)

We have had Huggies, pampers, the lot.. DS is 2 now, and really heavy wetter.
Even if you use branded ones.. get them on offer and you shouldn't be paying more than 12p a nappy ever.

Have tried Huggies, Sainsbury's own brand and Pampers. All leaked. Now on Asda little angels. Neither the active fit nor the comfort dry have leaked even once. They are mega cheap. Big thumbs up.

Isn't this the second thread you have on the subject?

Just try out some and see what you like.

I have tried soooo many different nappies (own brand and branded), each have leaked at different ages as the growing body alters in size and shape. So I use one until it starts to leak (obviously I go up sizes) and then a try out different ones until I find one that works and on we go.

between my mum friends we all find that we like different ones and I found the Asda little angel ones gave my ds a reaction but my friends didn't.

So just try a few until you find one you like. :)

I use
Huggies
Pampers
Boots own
Asda own
Tesco own
Sainsbos own
Wilkinsins own

The only negative to any of the above is I think Pampers ones have an odd smell. Other than that Ive never had leaks.

Thereforr I buy whatevers cheapest in whatever shop im in. Was in Superdrug today so boght their own but have yet to use them so cant comment.

Some of the Basics ones feel plasticy. But it seems mainly to be down to the shape of your child - also I found ds always got a rash if he wore consecutive disposables, but never with washables, whereas dn was the other way round.

I found Lidl good but they only sell size 3 upwards. Sainsburys are OK but the Eco ones were so crap I took them back. Pampers are ok but damn well should be for the price. And they lie when they say they stay dry all night... Didn't like Huggies but mainly because they break the rule of picture on the front so I kept putting them on backwards...
