Younger boy from over the road keeps wanting to play all the time with my older DS!

He's lovely, but he comes over practically everyday after school, my DS is 10 and he is 8 and really likes my DS. My DS likes to play with him, but not everyday and even at the weekend. He has a younger sister, the Mum never comes with him and he looks so heartbroken when I say not tonight as my DS does not want too. His Mum is Spanish and lovley, but very laid back which is great, but the whole language thing is tricky as I have spoken to her about it, but it did not seem to go in! I feel sorry for him telling him no but he's not mine! What to do?

I have a similar situation. My DS is 10 and we have an 8 yo neighbour, 'X' who loves to play with him. DS likes to spend a bit of time with him but would rather be playing out further afield with friends his own age. I don't think you can do anything apart from telling the younger boy nicely that your DS is busy and hope he eventually gets the hint. Its up to your DS who he is friends with, although I always encourage my DS to be kind, hang out with X sometimes (which DS is happy to do) and be subtle, i.e. not say he is busy then blatantly be seen off to hang out with his classmates.

Possibly your neighbour is so keen on your DS because he is the only boy near his age in "calling for" range? In which case the problem will be resolved as the younger boy gets more independence.

Can you tell him which night he can play 'tonight is tricky but we are free Wednesday and Monday'

Hard one, the Spanish are such a warm race of people and maybe this cultural difference is partly to blame. It's nice your DS has such a nice friend though! Smile.

The Spanish are such a warm race of people? What all of them?
